While the effects of a washed out image may be today’s caution tape fad, a solid exposure with correct color and contrast will yield a stronger image to stand the test of time
I do keep all the originals, so I may look into that too.

This is a fun effect, but how much value would in have in a models portfolio or look book presented to an agency

True, but does all work I have to do be commercial? Can't it be a piece without warrant to be a 'fashion' piece. I would like to look into art photography too. I do get your point though!

understood, but for theme of the shoot I wanted her to be face on a lot, simply for the theme which I won't go into detail on here, but I know I need to work on my direction, it's only natural seeing as this is only the second time I've worked with models.

If you haven't 'flipped' the image... the model is apparently left-eyed and shoots by pressing the shutter release with her right thumb. Most folks are right-handed and right-eyed. She also has her 'unused' eye open... most folks shut their 'unused' eye when shooting. Looks a bit odd to me...  and I'm right-handed and left-eyed because of a vision problem.

Aside from that, most folks seeing that image will assume it's you, especially since it's your avatar. You are a photographer and the image shows a person with a camera...

An avatar is an advert to attract viewers to your portfolio. It should be portrait orientation (Why? Portrait orientation images show up bigger in the MM scheme of avatars...), it should have some bright color (Why? Color attracts attention...).
So it's not a great avatar... even if it didn't have all that 'negative space'. The black 'negative space' seals it's doom... and it's even sorta washed out... needs a contrast push to make black really black...)

Hey, it's your portfolio... I'm just pointing out some things I notice... post whatever you want.

Interesting considering that's the image I've only had comments on, but I understand the comments. The image is not flipped however. I do the comments about it being the avatar though. I'll look through my portfolio and see if there's an image I like as much.

Personally I like the negative space surrounding the model, and the colour effect, but each to his own. I do take your comments on board, and I'll check what avatar I can use instead.
