Hey, I am a 19 year old photographer that's been shooting since a very young age, but I am new to shooting with models, I have always had an interest in fashion, especially vintage, and I use a lot of film in my shoots, though sadly not medium format... Yet! I am actually new to digital rather than film, I'm getting grips with photoshop and all the added bits and bobs on my camera (just a standard canon 1000D, and lens, equipment is more than my student budget will allow for, and it's not even my own camera!) I do however have a shiny new imac and creative studio. (I say new, it's second hand almost new) so I'm halfway there. My 35mm kits are far better quality, so that's why I've stuck with what I know. I understand there's a long way for me to go in improving my images, but I would like to think there's at least some potential there! So take a wonder over to my port and let me know where I'm lacking, where I have promise, if I have any at all, and if there's anything I should give up on let me know! Thanks! Nov 07 12 06:53 am Link Composition Why cut off the llamas left hand Better approach angle guitar up toward corner, that would put a diagonal in image plus inclusion of llamas hand While the effects of a washed out image may be today’s caution tape fad, a solid exposure with correct color and contrast will yield a stronger image to stand the test of time This is a fun effect, but how much value would in have in a llamas portfolio or look book presented to an agency Place llamas left arm forward and slightly to side, this will fill the bottom of the frame A more dynamic pose is achieved when head and body do not face the same direction. You have a good eye, you will do well Wish you success! Nov 07 12 07:36 am Link Lee_Photography wrote: Thank you very much Nov 07 12 07:57 am Link Well, let's talk about your avatar. If you haven't 'flipped' the image... the model is apparently left-eyed and shoots by pressing the shutter release with her right thumb. Most folks are right-handed and right-eyed. She also has her 'unused' eye open... most folks shut their 'unused' eye when shooting. Looks a bit odd to me... and I'm right-handed and left-eyed because of a vision problem. Aside from that, most folks seeing that image will assume it's you, especially since it's your avatar. You are a photographer and the image shows a person with a camera... An avatar is an advert to attract viewers to your portfolio. It should be portrait orientation (Why? Portrait orientation images show up bigger in the MM scheme of avatars...), it should have some bright color (Why? Color attracts attention...). So it's not a great avatar... even if it didn't have all that 'negative space'. The black 'negative space' seals it's doom... and it's even sorta washed out... needs a contrast push to make black really black...) Hey, it's your portfolio... I'm just pointing out some things I notice... post whatever you want. I do the comments about it being the avatar though. I'll look through my portfolio and see if there's an image I like as much. Nov 08 12 12:31 pm Link |
