Is This Mean?
No its not mean...in fact they way you stated it made you sound like a true professional model. Jan 03 13 07:57 pm Link I think this is a great way to reply. Maybe with a couple of tweaks suggested, it's even better. Maybe someone should sticky this thread, add it to the FAQ, etc. Jan 03 13 08:56 pm Link model emily wrote: This is a more successful response for me. Jan 04 13 09:06 am Link This is absolutely a case of bait-and-switch and -- based on what you state in this thread -- you designed it that way. It's not really a casting, so much as an availability notice to draw in interested photographers with the lure of TFP when you have pre-decided that you will only offer half or so of the photographers who contact you a trade shoot and must be paid by the other half or so, based on the number of shooting days you anticipate being available overall. So if you already got a photographer for each of the ideas you had, why is the casting still up? Jan 05 13 02:55 am Link it is not mean, and it is professional. however, some people find it tacky and bait and switch to respond with your rates, when the casting was for TF. So I would probably leave that out, and people who would still want to work with you will ask for rates themselves. Let them know you like to hear their ideas for trade as well, if you like them enough to work with them. If they want to work with you anyway, they'll ask for rates or ask how they can still work with you. Never, ever, ever, send rates as an immediate response to a trade casting. You'll lose people that may have paid you otherwise, just by the insult of it. Jan 05 13 03:50 pm Link M A S T E R S wrote: next... Jan 05 13 03:58 pm Link I agree with many of the folks above, in that your message unintentionally says, "I've selected someone else for my TF* project, but I'll work with you if you pay me." It's often best just to not saying anything and to do so is professional. (In many professional casting calls it is routine to not saying anything rather than the insincere stock response of "we'll keep you on file for consideration in other projects.") Most will just assume you picked someone else and that's generally okay. Jan 05 13 04:06 pm Link Jordan L Duncan wrote: You probably would have been better off to simply stop w/ the above. Jan 05 13 04:15 pm Link You are responding to your denied job applicants with a price list for your services and you think that that makes sense? Really think about that one for a moment. Jan 07 13 01:10 pm Link Let's see. If you saw an ad for a Black Friday sale for a free camera and you stood in line for hours only to have the cashier tell you that they don't have any more of them for free, but you could buy one for $500, would you feel cheated and manipulated? Would it matter how professionally or pleasantly the cashier worded the response? If the photographers that I sent that message to had wanted to schedule in March or April for TF, then it would have been another matter. As for the casting still being up, I thought that the time had to expire on the casting before it would disappear from the casting calls list. I will check and see if I can take it down though since I do have all my spots filled now. I did not know they could be deleted and I am on my way to deleting right now. Now that I realize how this looks I will be sure not to let it happen again.
