Thanks, everybody!  Skita, that's a great idea.  I might play around with it to see how that looks.

I like the one in the portfolio slightly better, but there's something you need to understand about how llama Mayhem displays photos: They give you X amount of pixels wide for your image. So if you've got a vertical image (portrait mode) you will have a larger image on the screen than if you have a horizontal (landscape) image. Because your avatar is pretty small anyway, I'd suggest you use the avatar you have (portrait mode) because it's quite good, instead of the one in your portfolio, which may be better but will be too small to see the details well.

Thanks, WCR3.  I was thinking that if I wanted to change my avatar, I would need to crop it to fit.  Luckily, I have the full-sized version of the image, so I can play around with it.  Mostly, I was looking for which one to use in my actual, physical portfolio that I take to go-sees and auditions.

I think the current avatar is a lot nicer than the first image in your port. That image in your port is over exposed, very flat front lighting and doesn't show you off. You're facing straight on which is a no no in most cases, especially a head shot.

Your eyes and head position on the current avatar are better than good, lighting is good. I like it. A perfect head shot, no but better than the other one, definitly

As a headshot.. serving the purpose of an actual headshot and not just a pretty photo... Your current avatar is better than the other shot in your portfolio hands down. Neither are the greatest of headshots however. If I were you I would scope out a photographer specializing in headshots and have some new shots done that you can bring to go sees, etc.

Just realized that you are with an agency. This question needs to be directed their way. Agencies will usually choose your photos.

Thanks Aaron Lewis and J Gagnon.  Interesting that there are so many opinions.  And you're right - my agent does choose the headshot for the portfolio online and for the comp cards.  But that leads to an interesting question.  Should my physical portfolio match my online portfolio exactly?

What J said, but it's good for you to have a good sense of what works. Every artist is their own CEO, and you could possibly no better than them.

Both head shots look great as far you look, but this one:



has the slightly better expression. It punctuates a sense of kindness that goes well with your look.

So if you can match that with the kind of head shot you have now, since you really don't want to have anything distracting in photograph like the leaves in your commercial shot, you will have a solid start.


Also, to put the image in the forum, is simple once you see what to do. Under your photo in your port their is a set of links, click on the one that say, 'MM Forum Code" copy and paste that link into the forum and you're set.
