I wear my kilt when I do weddings. Must try it sometime on a model shoot and see what the reaction is like. Just have to make sure if it's on location that there is not too much of a wind blowing. A good quality kilt costs around £800 now but they last for years, mine is at least 20 years old.
Also a kilt contains between 3 to 5 meters of material, a little known fact is that all the pleats at the back are different sizes as the pattern of the tartan at the back matches that of the front. Military kilts are different in construction.

I love wearing my Utilikilt, but I've never worn it during a shoot. I do too much moving around in awkward ways, I wouldn't want to offend/distract the model from the task at hand.

It would be cool if you could explain all the differences in the kilt designs and there meaning.
I know that the kilts have a very strong meaning and some kilt wearers are offended by the fashion changes. I mean that it is as emotional to some as flag burning.
Can you explain this as well. I myself am a bit fuzzy on this and would love to learn.

I'm from Texas and my 100 percent pure wool kilt gets very hot, even in the winter time.
But I filled it out perfectly, and had the best swing when I walked, but sorry no pictures
Tell me your next trip to Dallas and I will try to get it out off the mothballs just to do a shoot with you.
I have several kilts, including a now very worn leather one...
I'd totally wear one to a photo shoot, but would be quite concerned about offending the model(s) due to a wardrobe malfunction while on a ladder or the floor! :-)
Now if I knew a model was OK/interested in me wearing it, that's another story!

I have been known to wear this "kilt" to shoots, but what else would you expect of a Scottish tranny?
Most models seem completely unfazed by me turning up in women's clothing (though I do always ask them first) and many seem to quite enjoy it - it's certainly a talking point, lol! Given that, I imagine most models would love to work with a tog in a kilt!
And for the record I have a proper kilt too, for use at weddings and rugby matches, but sadly no photos.
And if you want to know more about the kilt, try Wikipedia, it has a good, and mostly accurate, entry.

An, "English," kilt?? That's a new one on me. Irish yes, Scots for definite, but English? A word of warning, don't go mistaking a Scotsman for English - that's a good way to get yourself,"kilt" in Scotland.
I just had to reply to this...yes, I often wear a kilt to shoot in. One of my nude models kept asking me to reach for things on the top shelf in the studio...she couldn't stop laughing!

I read something about the british army is bringing kilts in. I have also read that when some of the scotsman faught in the british army they were told to wear there traditional wear the kilt to be identified as a scotsman.
Definitely the scotsman hold the kilt as a very big part of there history where as others see it as just clothing.

Aye, but the British Army isn't English. England, like Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is merely a part of Britain, or the United Kingdom as it is also known. Scottish regoments in the Brit army were mostly raised after the 1745 rebellion - when the British government decided to harness the fighting talents of the Scots, especially with the Highland regiments. Most of these famous regiments are now disbanded. So, far from the British army "bringing in" kilts, they are getting rid of them. Sad, but true.
Kilts were abandoned, but retained as a ceremonial uniform only during the 1914-18 war as they were found to be unsuitable for trench warfare.

I wouldn't wear the kilt to shoot in. Aside from obvious issues, it's formal attire, and I spend a lot of time laying on the floor and crawling around at a shoot. I've worn blue jeans for like 207 shoots, and I think, shorts for two or three.
Kudos for not deeming it "creepy" though. I OWN a kilt, but it was my dads, and at 6'6" and about 250, I'm no where near big enough to wear it.
I think its a cool Idea, would really like to do it!
I think its allot of fun when a photographer is into fashions himself. I have had a few that were and they would actually show me a pose they were looking for. that was cool. It brings the minds closer to collaborating on a project.
I wouldn't care if a photographer shot in the nude himself and don't find it creepy at all. If it had a sexual or a hint that he was doing it as a perverted thing then yes creepy.
But if he was doing it because he is creative and free and expressive then awesome.
Its the same thing as fine art.
If you view nudity as a perverted thing then why do you shoot it? hhhmmmm gets ones thinking going.
I think the reason people are uncomfortable about it is because they are not free, they are thinking about the what would people think and is it offensive.
Ya allot of people are freaked out by the Idea, but I am not. As long as its not a sexual thing then I am completely comfortable with it.

It does suck to have to be paranoid of some aspects. To a certain degree you almost have to be. Takes the freedom of just opening up and being free away. That's why it is so cool when it is comfortable 2 artists making art!
