Hey guys and gals...
How many of you have a page solely for your modeling on facebook?
I was thinking about creating one since I've been getting offers via facebook for modeling and I really don't want everyone knowing what I do... (family and whatnot)

Yes, I have a page.  My family knows what I do, but they don't know the extent, (lingerie, nudes.) I don't share my modeling page on my personal facebook page since most of my family can see that. (So don't choose the option to promote or create an ad, that wouldn't be wise, and it's expensive.)  I only invite my friends that I know are okay with it, and any photographers.  I always tell people to email me anyway.  In my opinion, booking shoots via comments on any website is unprofessional.  Facebook Pages are helpful to some, or unnecessary for others.  Good luck.

Facebook is a hugely better environment for making connections with models IMO -  there is some sort of attitude that seems to go along with MM -  and here there is no way to really put yourself forward as a rounded human being....

I have made super model connections through facebook -  yes they have had MM pages too -  but the whole attitude seems to be more positive and more productive when the encounter begins in that milieu -

I post castings, shoot ideas. publication updates and a bit of news about myself on facebook that either have proven to not work well here or just do not "fit" here.....

I do definitely have a fan page (which could use some love, I'll admit--LOL!), but I don't have a completely separate personal FB profile for my modeling endeavors. I don't think I would/will unless I decide to start showing 'nips and "pink," which I currently don't anticipate.

I believe Facebook is very good for networking and promoting your work. I can only recommend creating a page for this purpose.

However, (your portfolio is good so you're not concerned), but i'm astonished by how easy it is for pseudo-models to create pages on facebook. Especially on the goth/alternative scene, it's just CRAZY to see everyone's suddenly become a model with phone/Point-and-shoot pictures..
just sayin'

I am thinking of making a separate photography FB account, not so much because I want to for myself, but because many other photogs and models have them so I can friend them and do photography type stuff not bore them with endless pictures of misbehaving children and dancing cats. And don't want to cause my old relatives heart attacks if they see some of the fetish photography stuff.

I started mine a while back and while it initially brought in paying jobs, the fan base is now more international and not nearly so useful for advertising to the target market.

Though I expect most of the changes Facebook have made in the last 18 months have severely reduced the usefulness of Facebook as a marketing tool.

I have just created one, but its purely a non nudes one as i dont want to be banned or reported showing any skin and plus, i wanted other artists to see that i dont just model nudes..

i was lucky, i managed to score a few job offers since opening my page about 2 weeks ago, so i think its a success..

good luck if you are considering it..

Yup, I have one. I still set up most of my shoots through MM though, or at least that's how I find the photographers. We end up adding each other on Facebook eventually though. Or I find them through Facebook groups. My fan page itself hasn't done too much for me besides get my name out there I guess.

I didn t make one for years and lived to regret it. All of these sites people come, look at your port and mostly just go away, but when they click on your page, they get your updates. It took me time to figure that out

So just started mine and also do not share it on my personal profile. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Misfit-Am … 9758337999 Family doesn t have a clue about it. big_smile

I'm not 100% sure about this but why not make a separate personal page, not a fan page, for modeling where you can make "friend" connections and they get update when you post something new.  Make friends with other models and their friends and also photographers, MUA, etc.  Just keep it for people in the business.

I suggest this because it seems that most people who "like" your fan page won't get your updates, like posting pictures for example.  But they will get your regular/personal page updates.

I think it's a good idea any time you can separate your personal life from your professional persona.

I actually use FB to find models more often then I do MM. And it's a good way to get your name out there to people who might not other wise know you exist

I've had one for a few years, but I only started to regularly update it recently. I have yet to get any work from it, but it's another way to get some of my work and my name  out there...

I have a fan page, mostly to keep my friends/family up to date on what I'm doing without cluttering up my other friends' pages that don't care to see everything I post. Plus it's easier to post stuff on there sometimes.

I have one, but not to keep anything from anyone, just to funnel all the random friend requests into so I can continue to deny them all without having them refriend over and over and without making me go through the long process of blocking all of the requests.

I made an entire new account.
Didn't make a fan page - although that might be a good idea.

I did it to keep my personal and work life separate.
That, and while my family and a few of my friends know I model nude, I don't want all of my friends knowing unless they find it for themselves.

To the OP:  just some food for thought. Unless you go by an alternate name with your modeling than your real name, your family or whomever can still find your fan page just as easily as they could see your work on your actual FB page with a simple google search. Fan pages are public access and can easily be googled/searched. You might consider that before making one. good luck

Second the tenured wisdom here... at the upper reaches of our industry you'll not be booking major assignments through FB... word... there are compelling reason why agencies exist...

albeit for hobbyist it works... no disagreement here...

I deliberately don't have a fanpage on facebook. Personally, I just don't like it. I share my work on my own profilepage, and work with lists. So colleagues, family, classmates,... are put on a list that can not see my modeling stuff.

I use tumblr sort of as a fanpage.
