I am not sure if this is where to post this, but figured this is the best spot. I had someone contact me asking if I could make a personalized mag her boyfriend. I'm happy to do it! I just don't know where to even get something like that done at.

Basically she wants something similar to playboy but of course nothing but photos of her in different outfits. She wants the cover shot of course, fake articles, centerfold..

Im not sure what you are asking. Are you wondering about the actual print process, or is it gong to be just a pdf document of a Playboylike mag. Or are you wondering about how to create the pages or are you .... ?

The more specific you are the more detailed answers I think.

You will probably have to go through an album company that offers soft cover books like magazines. Many magazine printers will want quantity ordered.

I know they offer soft cover-

I think you can by singles through lulu.com but the other two above will be a better quality.

She is asking for a full out personalized printed magazine. Her picture on the cover, her pictures in the centerfold. Fake articles etc. I guess her boyfriend collects everything from SI to playboy's. She thought it would be something fun he can own.

I don't even know where to begin with a project like that. Would be fun though.

I hope you're pricing it similarly to a wedding. sounds like an enormous amount of work.

Any digital print shop should be able to run it; so say you want an 80 page magazine finished at 8.5x11 inches. That is 20 sheets of 11x17, 4/4, folded, saddle stitched and finish trim (of course with the finish trim and if they can run full bleed it may end up slightly smaller than 8.5x11). I would recommend at least 80lb gloss text, possibly even 100lb gloss text.

I think that is the way to go, pretty easy to make cover graphics. I would do it as a parody like Playdude or Maxxism  to keep from running afoul of trademark issues.

That.

My guess is that the girl will balk at any reasonable bid. After all, she can get her BF a real copy of Playboy for six or seven bucks, so why can't she get a fake one for less?

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I'm going to do the cover, a fake sports article, a picture set or her in lingerie, a page for jokes, centerfold, another fake article then another set of pictures towards the back. I'll make it like 80 pages, but roughly 75% of them will be blank. To do a complete cover to cover would be insane.

you can create a mag and print one or many copies for like $20 or so depending on page count (ofcourse she doesnt have to know what you paid)
