Sorry if this has been repeated to death- can't be bothered to read everything else.
But did anyone else see this amazing moment when she passed the mic to one of her fans?

I cried laughing...

Golden showers too I see. The ones that talk the loudest and put a lot of emphasis on what they won't do. Do.

I get performing at the Super Bowl...that's commercial.  But the Presidential Inauguration...they couldn't have selected someone more esteemed to perform the National Anthem?  A shame if that's what it takes to get the masses to be interested.  Feels more like the dumbing down of our society.

I don't particularly care for her myself but Beyonce has been a top vocalist for a decade and her career goes back 15 years. At age 31, she is a star very connected to a generation of voters who support the President. And, no, I'm not talking about the teenie-twenty crowd. I'm referring to voters who were between 18 and 33 when she started with Destiny's Child; people who recall the previous democratic administration, who recall the years before the recession hit, women whose personal situations often prompted them to identify with Beyoncé's lyrics and have matured as adults into careers and parenthood and frustration with politics etc etc as this singer has navigated her own career.

So were talking about people from ages 33 to 48 who truly feel like Beyoncé is an artist of our (at 35, this range includes me) generation. A bracket of voters who feels like the President is truly a selection of our generation (John McCain and Mitt Romney were both candidates representative of past generations not of the 21st century; one could argue that it is a quality that made it difficult for Hillary to best Obama in 2008). In 40 years, she'll be viewed as a noteworthy figure in music history. In 2010, Forbes ranked her #1 in the top 100 Most Influential Musicians in the World, Billboard ranked her as the top vocalist of the first decade of the 21st century and in 2012 she was ranked 3rd in VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music list.

Now, you can think that all of it is undeserved but the point is that she's been recognized as all that and a host of other things. She's won a ton of awards for her music. You can not like her (again, I'm not a fan of her) but you can deny neither her vocal ability nor her accomplishments as an artist.

And because of that, it's difficult to make the claim that she isn't esteemed enough to sing at the White House. What… should it have been someone older? Someone who is identified with the past generations? No, Beyoncé Knowles — much as you or anyone else may not like her — has indeed been a dominant figure in music since the start of this century and is very much representative of a 21st century vocalist. Name another vocalist who would have been a clearly better choice. Believe me: I've no love for her and would be happy to entertain arguments to the contrary. I'll even try to find you facts to support counter-arguments.

But the fact is that she was a perfectly apt selection. And let's just be real about this: she's raised a ton of money for Obama and politics is all about favors. If you think she didn't have just such a thing in mind (singing at the inauguration) when she was raising all those dollars, you're naive. In 40 years when people are still singing her praises (while she's still singing and singing well) you'll probably still be pissed off about this. Sad.

I'm not a fan of her music (obviously) but I respect her business acumen, hard work and determination.   Whitney Houston was amazing, En Vogue was a talented similar group I enjoyed.

This is taking things too far:

Like I said: I'm no fan of hers. I could even have been accused at one point of being a hater. But I will acknowledge what she's done and how she's been recognized as acheiving regardless of whether or not I would have personally picked her for this thing or that.

I mean, really I still hold a grudge against her for how she promoted the “Y'all ain't nothin but a buncha dusty brothas and all y'all need to get your shit together 'cause all us sistas are queens by virtue of being a woman even if we ain't shit.” to sell records. I should probably let go of that but my hate keeps me warm at night as I bitterly age like a sour whiskey.

All's I know is if you put her dancing next to Gaga in a video she makes Gaga look like a gangly 8th grader dancing in front of a mirror.
