I'd love some critique, the only way to improve is to know what you need to work on! Thank you!

You seem to be experimenting, but have not really found the direction you want to go in. But I'm also thinking you're getting there. So keep going.

Joseph Peffer wrote: I'm down if your still playing I'm not "playing". Great work, gorgeous models. Just way too much to look at. I'd like to have some more environment sometimes, some more finesse. The first row of your "Artistic" album is the direction I mean. You're very focused on the model, very "portrait-ic". I wonder if you could focus on products (fashion) also. However: great port. I'm envy of alot of pics (and models). Couldn't show a picture here for some reason.

MiGel I love your portfolio and style first of all. If you will allow it, may you please critique my work as well? Thank you for your time.

Luke from Photoggle wrote: I'm new, but check out my port and rip it to shreds if you deem fit. I most certainly try to not rip apart a newbie if I see potential. In your case I do see it. Be carefull not to overdo (like in your last 3 pictures) and use hq techniques. What concerns me is your colors. They're seriously off, not only the skin colors. As a retoucher you have to invest in a good (!) display and find a way to calibrate the stuff. Maybe that is your problem.

Stephen King wrote: Please do! : ) From your profile: "PAID ASSIGNMENTS ONLY" I IMHO honestly see no real justification for that. None of your work is above average, most of your lighting is kinda flat, your outdoors don't show that much experience with the conditions (lighting, exposure, framing...). I'm sorry if I come across kinda rude and cruel but honesty's my thing and an honest opinion helps the open-minded often more than a more easy (to take) compliment. To make myself clear: Your pictures are not ugly or awful or anything like that, they are just nothing special or more tha average, as said.

cheyen wrote: newbie here, I want to know what you think?? Newbie you can tell from the port. You got quiete some variety in pictures already, but one can clearly see you're unexperienced and still a little tensed. You need way more posing and mimic options. But of course, you're just starting out, so it's perfectly natural. I would like some more full-body or "more-body" shots as well.

I am just getting into fashion and am excited to explore that full throttle. Thanks! All the best! I don't think fashion is the right direction for you (I already tried to tell you that), but do as you seem fit.

Jerome Bigger wrote: Sure, go ahead and tell me what you think. Thanks! Another male model (poor me), but this time with much more variety and drive concerning the shootings. As often with males I however would like to see more "profile" and "character" and a little less skin instead. Some of your pictures look virtualy identical to ME, so I would throw some out. Your avatar is cool.

Just Aly wrote: me ? As you are gonna retire, there's no use in an extensive critique. Nice port, hardly anything really exciting, You don't look that much interested and into the shoots in most pictures. That I consider maybe one o your best (though I don't like the hand), 'cause I got the impression you're a little less tensed there.

Kimberly Conrad wrote: Which one is my best? Do I have one? Thanks - love your port! You look very natural and relaxed in your shots. You seem to have fun. This is a very important thing for a beginner. You now have to decide in which direction you wanna go. You could stay with the fun, portrait and non-commercial work or you could try a more professional-looking, maybe scene-orientated kind of work (I'm personally more of the latter type). That is totally up to you and nothing is "better" in any way - just a matter of personal taste. This is a very tiny step in the direction I was just talking about, cause it is a LITTLE bit more "editorial"-looking (a.k.a. as they do in the magazines):

King Kuang wrote: I went through the thread. Your advice is solid. Would appreciate it if you took a look through my portfolio. I'm not quiet sure where you're going to with your port? What's your goal? Who are you referring to? This are questions you should ask yourself. The overall impression is IMHO and not meant with disrespect that you want to show of your body/muscles. If that is your goal it is ok, but I don't see that much "art" in that. Therefore I chose to not pick a "best" though you got good pictures. It's just because of personal taste & feeling.

Kami Mahoney wrote: I love your portfolio and would love to hear your opinion on mine! After looking at your port and then reading your text I can sense a certain type of frustration.. And I fully understand it. Yes, you need more defined themes and maybe even more important, the cooperators that are skilled to get that properly played out. You're lacking that in your port. The basketball-thing e.g. is a great concept but poorly made into images. The pillar (and pillow)-theme is less strong but has however the same problem. I can imagine this limits you. But make no mistake: It's not about finding someone with a good, concrete concept. You can bring that to the table, too, no need to always rely on others for that! You need someone who can TRANSLATE a good/great concept in good/great images. As I think you may be strongly limited by your cooperators I won't judge you for your modeling as by now. I think you first need the right team, then I can see where you need to evolve (or not).

Leone P wrote: Can i play please. x I'll make this brief and simple: You hardly had good photographers. Seeing your special style I can see why. It's IMHO hardly sth. a commercially interested and -shooting photographer (like I consider myself) would want to shoot, unless for a certain use. It's just too special. Your facial expression and posing isn't very convincing or professional either. You already know what I think is your best pic but it's not a good image in the regular term (it's blurry etc).

varton wrote: Let's hear it. Thanks. Thank you! Finally a New York-photographer who isn't stunning! (ahh, that wasn't nice, but meant in another but a personal way!) I'm just not at all impressed. It's flat, boring lighting. It's mostly cheesy concepts. Consider this a serious question, not any kind of insult: Have you ever really thought about lighting? More than "it's what make the images bright"? You should.
