After taking about a 9 month hiatus to focus on other things, I've started modeling again. I'm not looking for a full-on critique of my port, but I would like to know what you guys think I should be focusing on, i.e. what types of photos I should try and create to help the quality of my portfolio. Such as more colorful shots, more headshots/or body shots, etc.

Hi youngster,

9 months hiatus? You posted a casting call in January... Maybe 8 months? Just being picky...

Well, you don't have any 3/4 body shots. But you don't have a lot of say in that, unless you can find photographers who shoot that way.

What can you work on? Develop your posing skills and ability to project emotion through facial expression and body language.

Good Luck!

P.S. PLEASE change your avatar. You are a tiny black figure in the present one. Nobody can tell much about you from that image. Okay, it's 'arty', but it doesn't help you interest photographers in you.

Well, I came back a month ago, so I'm not "just back".

Thank you for the help/tips! I changed my avatar to my closest head shot. Better? smile

Much better, but a portrait orientation shot (vertical long side) will show up bigger as an avatar. I looked through your posted images and none of them are better than the one you are now using. Maybe look through images you haven't posted. What you want for an avatar is:
1. Portrait orientation - shows up bigger.
2. Simple graphic - In other words, you, a 3/4 length body shot or closer so your face shows up well.
3. Simple background - a 'busy' background makes it hard to pick you out
4. Primary color - color attracts attention, so a bright red, green, yellow, or blue in a large portion of the image will attract attention. Black is NOT a color, neither is white, as far as attracting attention.
