While Macs in general are safer on-line then Windows systems.   Its becoming clearer they are NOT immune to attacks and problems.   This is not to attack Apple but is to say keep your software up to date.   Complacency is your enemy.

They're not safer, they're just not targeted as frequently.

I guess when China's army decides to these kinds of things there's not much to be done - other than hope the holes in Java and Flash can be filled quickly.

Yes. They are called half-wits. It's a first step on the way to genius and a position behind the bar.

IMHO: It might make more sense to just remove Java completely if at all possible.
Disabling Java and Flash in any and all computers you have kills a bunch of attacks.

This attack had nothing to do with China. It was traced to a group of hackers in Eastern Europe.

I wouldn't put it past Apple to have orchestrated the attack themselves, just so they can show that they have everything that Windows does (including a vulnerability)!  http://assets.modelmayhem.com/images/smilies/lol.png

There's no need to remove Java from your computer. Just don't permit Java applets to run within your web browser. It's Java in your browser that is exploited, not the computer's Java JRE.
