Apr 18 13 09:24 am Link Apr 18 13 09:45 am Link Damn, yo. Ol' Man River (as people called in my home town) doesn't fuck around. Growing up in Memphis we were fortunate to live on the Bluff side. The rising river might flood (the appropriately-named) Riverside Drive but it never went much further than that. The Bluff is pretty damned high. The river actually isn't too high right now so I'm kinda surprised it's to the hot dog stand, but that's also near a boat dock. The rest of the river has a retaining wall to try and keep it in check. Apr 18 13 09:57 am Link Apr 18 13 12:46 pm Link There's a huge possibility of flooding happening here after all the snow has melted. It's Apr 18 13 12:56 pm Link Yikes!! The Wisconsin River shot up too. Although with the drought we've had the past couple of years the extra moisture is nice but...it can stop raining/snowing anytime now Apr 18 13 01:16 pm Link Eclectic Vision wrote: Apr 18 13 02:28 pm Link DarcieK wrote: I'm not in the flood plane for the river, and thankfully no one in my family has a house that gets water in the basement. So although I don't enjoy the flooding, I don't really hate it either...well, except for all the road detours and the fact that it makes the pothole problem worse. Davenport has a lot of protective measures regarding the Mississippi (though it does still flood every few years), and the hot dog stand is always the first victim, but when Duck Creek floods...that's hell. There are lots of houses right along the trail (the bike trail follows the creek) and when Duck Creek goes out of it's bank it wreaks havoc. Drowns out entire streets, ruins homes...just nasty. I think the last time it flooded was 10 years ago or so, and now I fully understand why everyone was so upset about it happening last time. Apr 18 13 02:32 pm Link Whoa!!!! Had no idea it could flood that drastically without major insane rainfall... Apr 18 13 06:41 pm Link |
