I only posted a handful of times in SB, I read it sporadically, when I had extra time.

To be honest, I dont understand the folks in this thread who are so glad to see it gone...

If it bothered you, if you didnt enjoy the give and take in the forum, if you thought it was a bunch of trolls---why did you even open the forum? Was someone holding a gun to your head, forcing you to read it? Why do you care about what went on in a forum you didnt participate in?

Do you somehow lack control over your computer- does it take you to forums you dont like and force you to participate?

You couldnt just be satisfied that some folks liked to play there, and leave it alone?

I think the site is in a semi-serious decline, Alexa shows traffic for the entire site has declined steadily for more than two years, I dont understand the logic of driving more traffic off the site to FB or anywhere else. The place lives and dies on the "clicks" it gets on the ads, it has to have traffic to survive.

Oh, and I dont think I am a "troublemaker" or a "malcontent"--- I have been here since 2005, I have never been brigged, I have never been warned... (Maybe I should have been, maybe I was close, but....)

Whatever.

I agree..nobody was forced to participate. How many times have people asked or petitioned to bring back Soapbox...I know I want it back.

Can't we have one forum that is freedom of speech....

How about you bring that up in site-related rather than dig up old threads.  You know better than that...

If the participants would have been better at self-moderating, SB would still be around.  It was just a matter of reading the rules and following them.  I never got brigged, but I was still able to use creative expression to get my point across.

It was still about expression...true, there were those that would spiral themselves into the ceiling, but as was mentioned before..they didn't have to participate.

It's been gone. Let it go. I'm glad that it's gone. Most that want the thread are nothing but drama queens.

Let this forum go as well....SF2: Ess Effin Two

It's worse than SB

I don't understand why people can't comprehend the simplicity of "Just don't post in SB if it upset them so much"....nobody forced anyone to join in.

there have been numerous discussions about the demise of sb. and your theory is blown when what probably happened (not 100 percent sure) was that too many sb participants were crying to mommy and daddy.

i'm sure that anyone offended by sb's shenanigans shied away from it. the problem seemed to be not enough big boy pants in the room. one forum was taking up too much of the mods' time.

regardless, adieu: it's over, johnny.

it had nothing to do with people who didn't post in sb! it was the people who DID post in sb.

besides, how many times can you see the same people take the same exact sides on any issue that came up. after the lines were drawn, everything would descend into a name-calling, intelligence questioning, abusive morass.

nobody ever argued their points correctly. it was just a heavy dose of confirmation bias and stale rhetoric.

as someone who could actually take either side of an issue (based on facts), it was fun to witness the chaos. depending on the issue, i would be labeled (vociferously) a right wing loon, or a communist liberal. lol

it was fun.

but it's dead...let it go.

I'm aware.  That doesn't make his statement above any less reasonable, though.

Also agreed.  I had the same experience, which is why I posted infrequently there, and only to threads that interested me more than a little.

The thing about it was that those who were interested in actual debate were never a match for all the tiresome dogma and constant gainsaying going on.  But then, "soapboxing" isn't exactly about debate.

When SB was going, I would NEVER have referred to you as a communist liberal.  Never.

Of course it descended into bias and stale rhetoric, but to be honest, there were some good conversations if we just ignored the trolls..one troll in particular..no names.

It's disgusting that the trolls succeeded in closing it down.

I was gone for months recuperating from a severe illness and when I returned I noticed it was was just gone..no valid explanation..just gone.

Agreed.

I've browsed through SF2 and it is just junk posting in my personal opinion...not even a topic worth discussing..again, that's my opinion so I never posted there. To be fair, SB had it's trolls and those that posted vitriolic garbage, but there were some interesting discussions when we just ignored those people.

I know it's gone, but then I was gone for months recuperating and it was such a disappointment to finally turn my computer back  on and find thast SB was gone without a valid reason.
