Hey hi

I live in Chicago and I wanted to know if i could still stay in the city [at least until i'm able to move out there] and still be signed to agencies based in the east/west coast.

Are there any models that are doing the same right now? Is it difficult?

Please & thank you!

I'm not quite sure if it's what you're asking, but you can get a mother agent in chicago and have them connect you with other agencies in other markets. You don't necessarily need to be *living* in those other markets per se (though usually you have to invest at least a small amount of time there) and can just travel there and back for direct bookings.

If you want to work, you have to live where the work is.

Sure, you can get signed by agencies that operate in cities that you don't live in, but if the work isn't near you, you won't get the jobs.  Why would a client fly you into an area or trust that you'll show up if you're 300 miles away? Especially because there are likely plenty of other choices that live where they're hiring.

It really depends on the model and the market. If you're really established and in demand already, clients will direct book you. Otherwise there's not a lot of incentive if it's in a market that already has thousands of beautiful girls living and working locally. It really only works through a mother agency and when a girl is already established or at least shows great potential and there is big "hype" about her.

I live in Toronto but direct book with my agency in Montreal all the time. But this works for several reasons:

1) Montreal is a slightly smaller market and so there are less models to choose from.
2) It's only a 6 hour drive away. They don't even necessarily know I don't live there and am not local. All they know is that I'm not available to come to a casting.

Generally though, you still need to invest a little time in that new market to get to know your agency, meet with some of their clients, etc.

You have to move there or live a few hours away and have access to transportation to get there.. Or you'll be ignored.
