Make sure that you are using a 64 bit OS.  LR4 and following will not install on 32 bit OS's.

Finding LR4 is difficult, and when you find it the cost of the superior LR5 is far far less   I just went through this when I bought my D4. $75 for the upgrade version. I don't do that CC crap; personal choice.

"Full of bugs"??? Perhaps I didn't have LR5 long before I updated to the trial-update of 5.2, but I can't say I noted any errors with it. Hell, I was able to convert my CS5.1 to open RAW files created using my D4 thanks to LR5 trial-version! (I ordered the upgrade-version to go from 3.6 -> 5, so I downloaded the 30-day trial so I could start using it while I waited for delivery )

I'd never go (CC). If I stop my membership I have nothing to show/use, and any .psd files created in it no longer open in anything else (as I understand it). Hell, I'm so paranoid about Adobe trying to screw us before we realize it with images not opening, I've gone 2+ years back and converted every finished hi-res .psd to a high-res TIFF - and now *only work with TIFF images! For paying them only $120/year to have access to their software, they in-turn get to steal my rights of the ability to use my own images. Unless I save in a non-.psd format. They also get to steal-away some of my semse of control, and have me concerned about their software like one of my other monthly bills? Nahhhhh............to each their own, and me I like things a lil more B&W than that (generally not with my own photography, that is ).

Sounds like a pitch from a used car salesman as you need to "act now" to capture this deal. Why Adobe ? What happens on Jan 1, 2014 after you've suckered everyone in to help your Q4 earnings report ? How long is that $10/mo price good for Adobe ? crickets.
