Who's up for a friendly game of Battleship?  I'll rate your portfolio using the pieces from the popular game.  I'll give most people a score alone, but if your work really strikes me (either in a good way or in a bad way), then I'll also add some comments.

Be forewarned, I'm blunt but I'm honest; so no cry babies.

Scoring goes as follows...

Carrier = 5 hits (You've blown me away with prowess)

Battleship = 4 hits (I'm impressed, you have a very solid portfolio)

Cruiser = 3 hits (You're kinda' hit or miss.  Some good work, but also some meh.  There's potential though)

Submarine = 3 hits (You're not bad, but you still need some work to break the surface and make yourself notable enough to catch my eye)

Destroyer = 2 hits (You're work is pretty weak, but you're at least you're not making horrendous mistakes)

White Peg = 0 hits (You're totally missing the mark.  Nothing caught my eye)

Okay, who's ready to take the first shot?

Very solid work and modeling, Eleanor.  I think you could get rid of the Polaroid though.  It doesn't benefit your portfolio at all, in my opinion.  I'm also not a fan of the unshaven look.  That's just a personal preference, so I'm not suggesting you change it.  I just don't like shooting it, because I think it tends to dominate nudes.

You have a fair amount of control over your lighting, which is a good thing.  Your compositions aren't bad either.  I do like that you know how to create a shallow depth of field.  These things will all get better with time and more shoots, so keep working at it.

One thing your weak on is getting your models to emote more.  They're too posed and stiff, even when they're trying to look thoughtful or introspective.  Help them relax and try telling them what you want them to be thinking about.  Either that, or engage them in conversation and take your shots while their mind in on their responses.

Three red pegs on my Aircraft Carrier.  You have some great stuff and are certainly on the way to sinking it.

I love stuff like this...

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/34268787 (18+)

but I don't feel it needs all the additional post work. I'd rather see just a fine art print without all the pizzazz, like this one...

I see the desire in you to create art, but you seem to be too influenced by glamor.  The models also look a bit too posed.  Your lighting could use some refinement as well.

When I look at B&W nudes, I want to be able to hang them on my wall as art.  Yours are getting there, but I think you need to push yourself more.

Way too much glam for my liking.  All the models seem lifeless, like they're just...there...and trying to be sexy.  Lighting tends to be too straight on as well, so there's nothing dramatic about the images.  The swords are way too cheesy for me and the Darth Vader mask image is poorly shot.

Great taste in models, but I find it a shame you got to work people like Titania and Nymph and this was the best you could come up with.

When I saw row upon row of "MM ____ of the Day" awards on your profile, I kinda' already knew I wasn't going to be impressed by your work.  If you consider those badges of honor and something to be proud of, then you're fooling yourself into believing you've reached some level of success.

There's nothing horrible about your work, but at the same time there's nothing that impresses me.  Everything looks forced and poorly thought out, as if you're just trying to mimic some of the glam stuff you find around here.

Good understanding of natural light and good use of shallow DOF, but you gotta' get more out of your models.  With some, you're just not getting them at their best angles, and with others you're capturing really weak expressions.  The styling is also either way too bland or way too busy for your backgrounds.  Try to find a stylist in your area, instead of letting your models use the clothes they bought at WalMart.

Keep at it though, because you have all the potential in the world to improve.  Also, be careful not to stick to the same type of lighting.  Try mixing shadows in creatively, or doing more against open windows.

Penthouse called.  They want there soft focus filters from the 1970's back.

Your lighting is very basic and bland, and your poses are either too cheesy or too corny.  This shot for example...

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/p … 6#32978117

is horribly framed, posed, expressed, cropped, etc.  She looks like she's doing anything but enjoying the scent of that rose.

In this one...

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130704/20/51d63a9320a73_m.jpg

the model simply looks uncomfortable.

I also don't understand why this...

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/131228/11/52bf217b4eb12.jpg

would be in a portfolio designed to attract models to shoot with you.  Lame, in my book.

You seem to have a good control of lighting, but nothing in your portfolio "Wows" me.

This one looked close as a thumbnail...

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 2599dc.jpg

but when I opened it up, it just looked too over-processed.  The arms are poorly posed too, which makes her look like she's an amputee.

You have a great look and figure.  In fact, I would love to shoot with you, if you're ever out in L.A.  The problem is, your images are just really weak. I'd say do TF shoots with some really good photographers in your area and replace everything you've got in your portfolio.  You can always shoot glam stuff to earn a buck, but to really show how good of a model you can be, which will likely mean higher rates for paying clients, you really have to show some strong images.

Keep at though, because you're beautiful.

I get the impression you want to be perceived as an artist, because of the mixture of themes and elements in your image, but at the end of the day they just look like dressed up glam to me.  I also find the repetitive use of spread legs to be crass, no matter how creatively you try to show it (like in the broken mirror shot and the chainsaw image).

Your post-work and color is pretty weak as well, and some of your shots are just flat out lame...like this one...

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/1 … 38a40b.jpg (18+)

Serious "What-the-Fuckery" going on there, in my opinion.

Good use of lighting and natural light, as well as good choice in locations and decent styling.  Nothing really GRABS ME though.  It's all shot fairly well, but your images are missing that Ummph to push it over to the next level.

Try to get your models to REALLY emote and also loosen the reins a bit so their poses can have more of a free flowing quality to them.

I like your creativity and the abstract approach you use to create your images.  So far none of your images have reached a level I want to hang on my wall, but I imagine they will be there one day.  Because your style is so different, it's kind of a like a Rubic's Cube.  All the pieces will need to fit perfectly together to solve it.

Keep working at your combinations and one day you're likely to create a really strong image that will get everyone's attention.

Good work and good control of lighting, but the posing seems a bit forced in some of your images.  I also don't feel so much post work is necessary when you have a decent image to begin with.

For example, this image...

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/110221/09/4d62a6a60d061.jpg

is a fine portrait and would look good as a B&W.  The selective coloring and HDR touch actually detract from the image rather than enhance it, in my book.

Most of what I have up is commercially based, so some of the poses are fairly contrived  .  .  .  as to the post stuff, it's mostly quick edits to establish an idea on where to take things, plus, I jest like playin' with all the buttons, and seeing how far I can push things  .  .  .  wink  Luckily I still have a few "shells" left, and I'm a relodin' as we speak Mr. E  .  .  .  thanks for the look, and the creative way of giving out some always appreciated critique  .  .  .  now, back to the game  .  .  .  wink

I wanna play!!!

I have only been shooting seriously in the last 4 months (pretty much all of my port). I know I need to pare down the repetitive looks, still posting based on what I like and not on what I need to have to attract models.

Would be interested in your thoughts.

I do strive for the catalog/magazine look.  I'm currently gearing my work to attract clients for paid work.  I also gear it toward model agencies and their models.  Seems to work so far.

I'd like to make a nice steady income from my work.  Then I'll try out some more fashiony/artsy work.
