I don't get it... why are the male heroes, male main characters in movies or television shows always without chest and body hair?

Most alpha males have testosterone based body hair (I know, too much can lead to baldness) which gives the physical strength and masculine appearance. Just like me... I am not a movie hero... I am a male... mountain climber, martial artist, body builder and so much more... and I am hairy (I started to "shave" a while ago), I mean... not Tajikistan hairy, but, well... I am a grown up...

So, why are "men" almost always depicted as those hairless monkeys with not a stubble on their bodies?

WHY???

Why are women depicted as hairless monkeys without a stubble on their bodies?

Because many people prefer that?

Good question!

But, to be honest... men are usually much hairier than any hair women... side show attractions being a rare exception.

Yeah, women shave body hair... but it's finer and much less than in males...

So, although your question is justified... even most unshaven women are not as pronounced hairy as natural men...

I mean... I had been close to women that, if they didn't shave for a while, their pubic area extended in a triangle from their labia up their thighs to the navel... not something I really care for as a cunning linguist (thanks 007 for that reference), but, especially males, who are much hairier as any women, are shown without chest and body hair... like teenagers on 35 years old actors.

I mean... the US is obsessed with hair removal... I understand that... and to be honest... if I had a way of getting rid of my own hair on my genitals... that would be friggin' awesome... but... I am talking about the rest of the body...

My chest hair is getting kinda thick and I like to do sauna, etc., and I never, even in Europe, like the sight of thick dark, long hair slapped wet on my wet body... LOL

Genitals is a practical and sexual reason, different story and unrelated to the movie characters of being alpha males and hairless... smile

Also... I am living for over two decades in this American culture... and since I would love to have a relationship in America... I try to adjust a little to the American demand for "eligibility"... if you know what I mean... smile

I don't go out enough and my internet personality is not compensating me enough for my looks... smile

The first actor that portrayed James Bond had a hairy chest.

There was a scene in "You Only Live Twice" ....when the Japanese girls giggled about the hair on his chest, he replied something about a proverb he quoted roughly as  "birds won't nest in bare tree".  (Now that I think of it, don't the British refer to women as birds?)

Just preference of the time period. It wasn't long ago that body hair was preferred for both men and women..

I remember too well!

Then, fast forward to today, where I am watching "White Collar" on Netflix and Matt Bomer/Neil Caffrey is about to enter a boxing match, when I remembered this curiosity... smile

Hair removal in earlier times was often for reasons of hygiene.  It is easier to control lice and fleas on a hairless body. tongue

because it makes them their muscles look more defined, because that is what women seem to prefer now ( the current trend). I don't like chest or back hair ( eww) but I don't like it when guys shave their legs. That looks weird to me.

+1
There are male heros with facial hair does that count?

Some males out there actually don't have a lot of hair. I knew of a few actually.

I find that diversity fascinating...

There are other women who actually want their lover be hairy like that, not just in the 70's and 80's, but nowadays... and others gag...

Seems to be like both ends of the spectrum and the rest falls in between...

Yes, body hair covers up the fit body that tends to be the focus in those sort of characters. You still see body hair on men playing less overly "look at my ripped body" characters, even if they are supposed to be sexy.

My BF is very manly and he has no chest hair (thank god lol) he doesn't shave it because his chest doesn't grow any hair at all even though his face it's really hairy and he sports a full bear his actual body doesn't grow much hair if  any at all.

I had to shave my legs for sports in college. Knee injuries... massive tape-jobs... they don't mix nicely with hairy legs.

I think sports and major surgeries are the only reasons...
