Never ask . paid work i network ie castings workshops advertise Availability
so i guess you could call that "asking " but never actually message anyone .

test work ie people i want to work with - no i did finally get brave enough to ask someone i really wanted to work with  once ...the whole experience turned out badly ,
so i won't again . IMO best to wait to be asked .

If I see someone on here I really.. like borderline worship. I shoot them a message and see if a collaboration is doable. I've had some of the best results with the artists I've contacted locally. Usually, I know exactly what I'm looking for if I need to update my port. That's why I actually prefer to find the people I want to work with rather than wait around. For me the waiting around bit is for people who find me and want to pay to put me in their port. The fun happens when I find a photographer that I'd cut off my toes just to get a chance to work with c;

You have an amazing look, I can't see many photographers turning you down.

Yeah, don't do that. Only contact someone if you're interested in paying them or working TF*.

That's what I thought... but unless I'm reading Koryn's post incorrectly, it sounds like that works for her?

There is a right way and a wrong way to contact photographers for paid work.

#1
Wrong:
Model: "I will be in your area soon. I love your work and would love to work with you!"
Me: "Great, I would love to work with you also!"
Model: "here are my rates"

#2
Right:
Model: "I will be in your area soon. Let me know if you have any paid projects that I would be a good fit for"

The first example is trying to flatter me, doesn't work because, IMO, if you love my work so much, why aren't you willing to shoot TFP? The second example gets to the point without the needless flattery nor the baiting.

I have learned to respond to #1 like this:
Me "If you are talking about a TFP shoot, yes, I would be interested"
It cuts to the chase and eliminates the bullshit

I never mind messages from models soliciting paid work. After all, they are just networking for paid work, nothing wrong with that.

Although some photographer will probably get insulted. smile

There are thousands of models and thousands of photogs, each looking for the right "other." If you're not pro-active it's not likely they'll find you. Don't sit by the phone waiting to be asked out. Offer to pose with any photog whose work you like, TF until you have your killer port.

Most of the models I work with contact me first. I don't have much luck finding models on this site.

Usually photographers seek me out. If I am planning to travel to an area I will browse the local photographers and book some work on my trip, but other than that I tend to be the one who is messaged
