The first 7D was announced in September of 2009.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS_7D

Is nearly five years a record time to wait for a Mk II version of a digital camera in the modern age?

The original 5D was announced in August of 2005.
5D Mk II was announced September 2008.  (3 years and change.)
5D Mk III was announced March 2012.  (3.5 years.)

The long awaited 7DMii will come out along with Nikon's replacement of the D300s in all likelihood!

SL2 already, really?

T6i, why?

The 7D MkII, I will believe it when it's on a store shelf, till then I don't believe it. I don't think it needs any improvements but maybe it's just me....LOL

You came up with Canon's New Ad Slogan..."We Build Cameras Like it was 2009"! But I think it was Cnet's Lori Grunin who said Canon still builds cameras like it was 2008! Lol

I like my 7D but if they introduce a better version I will probably purchase it.

That made me stop and think. My 7D is just fine too.  What improvements are needed?
None really, but I could wish for a higher ISO with less noise.

I got the 5Dmark3 last year, and the 60D as well, so I'm pretty covered for full frame and crop sensor for the next couple of years, I'll worry about a new camera when the 5D mark 4 is announced.

Only when the existing gears needs replacing will I start looking at the market, happy with the bodies I have currently.

Next body will probably be the 5D5 or even the 5D6, I'm in no hurry to spend my money for a marginal gain.

Now this is only me..and my thoughts. In my port...there is represented a collage of cameras...from Sony's A77, Canon's 7D, and Canon's Mark 2..Nikon's D40x and Nikon's D300, and even, I think a Leica M9. But, this is just me...Nikon's D800 is Rock Solid, and destroys whatever I used before. The D800 it is the best camera for me. My photography style has changed...it used to be rapid fire, get in much as possible.  Today, it is one picture at a time.
And Full Frame is quite different from DX cameras.

Just my own views.

I have M and 60D, so I'm interested in 7D II and M3.
For 7D II they need more than dual pixel sensor, 70D still does not have the greatest sensor.
For M3 - 70D dual pixel sensor to improve the focus and bigger body with more controls would be great smile

Quality over quantity? They could all suck... Hopefully Canon delivers good cameras, but it's a little late for me. I'm switching to Nikon.

Yes, but Canons have more pleasing skin tones in the studio. IMHO.

Just a rumor apparently...

I honestly don't know how they're going to get 50-60 MP on a 35mm equivalent camera. If you take the pixel density of a D3200 or D5200 and apply it to the sensor size of a D800 you get about 56-58MP, but if you do that you get pixels the size of a crop-sensor's, which means you'll probably get dynamic range and noise performance similar to that of a crop sensor.

I think we're not going to see 50-60MP unless it's brought about by a radical improvement or revolution in sensor design, maybe leaving behind the Bayer Array.

Well, yes and no. Obviously it's easy to manipulate any RAW image in PS/LR etc, but it sure helps if the original source image is pretty accurate to begin with. In this respect Canon score highly!

+1

The noise at high ISO was the ONLY reason I  purchased a 6D!

I still use my 7D 95℅ of the time...

Great minds think alike???  i purchased a 6D for the higher ISO (and ff wide angle capability) several months ago.

DNG Profiling? (If you're of the Adobe sort)

Love my QP card for this and I'm sure the many other solutions do a similarly awesome job. I switched from Canon and I wasn't happy with the idea of dealing with the standard Nikon profiles.

Hmm ... I have an EOS M. A very good solid camera with poor focusing capabilities. I wondering how (why) they went from "M" to "M3"?

It's nice to know that they're going to give it what it deserves.

M2 was a limited release in China and Japan, where the buyers don't really care about focusing issues. smile

7d mark II has to come short of the 6d ... so it will be crop sensor dual pixel , but same autofocus as 5d  but its gonna not have touch screen or it wont be weather sealed way too exspensive .. as you know they can make anything but can they nake a profit aswell ..

if you look at price 70d is 1299 6d is 1699  where can they put the 7d mark II?

other problem is 7d are still strong seller .. why would they kill a successful camera answer is they wont ...

Is it really still a strong seller?  I think it is still a "respectable" seller, but I think it is probably being outsold by the 70d and the 6D.

I don't think Canon is in any big hurry to either replace it or discontinue it.  I think it sells enough to keep it in production but not enough to justify a replacement.  I am not sure they want one just like Nikon hasn't been in a hurry to replace the D300s.

They sell enough to keep it around, but don't really have room between the D7100 and D600 to easily plug in a replacement.

At some point though, they may both listen to the market and bring out replacements.

Yes...isn't it still 2008? Canon thinks so. Remember Canon's 5D Mark II went from 21.1mp to hang on to your wigs and keys, Canon 5D Mark lll 22.3mp. Wow and massive increase of 1.2mp. I know it is not the size of MP.

The 7D seems like a good heavyweight camera, but the 5D markiii does wonders right now. I am shock that Canon waited so long to bring out a markii version of the 7D. Very odd indeed.

Why when the current 7D has weather seals, great AF and is a better camera than the 6D would it go backwards and be less?  I suspect it will continue to be a better camera then the 6D but less than the 5DMkIII.

One of Canon's best decision was to release the 6D, just asked Ken Marcus!

In the hands of a photographer, it can pump out some awesome images!

Many are looking at it with much favor : )
