I dropped my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens two weeks ago and it stopped focusing.  Last weekend, with the help of God and YouTube, I took it apart, fixed the problem and put it back together.  Now it works better than ever.

Small victories.   wink

Pics or the thread has no cred!

No, just kidding. Great for you and congrats.

I have a Minolta mini DSLR that I used for macros- battery door lock broke. I bought a new door for $45 about 8 years ago. I looked up how to replace...dazed by the efforts of a skilled camera technician...right now an aluminum clip I fashioned seems to be the fix.

Lens Guru now- Look at you~~~

P.S. Eh, I have a Minolta mini DSLR that I used for macros- battery door lock broke...

I have two copies of the same lens.  One has damage to the mount and one has damage to the front end.

I would really like to see the youtube video.

PM sent.

Hello All.....sorry I didn't get back very quickly.

Here are the links.....

The Video ----->   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkdiQdMCtyQ

Detailed Pictorial Steps  ----->  http://www.fotomozaic.ro/artikel.php?s= … dstory=225

I found the video helpful for a general overview of how it would look to take it apart.  But the second link was a far more valuable reference during the actual process.

It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to do it....and there IS a chance you may get some dust or moisture into the lens compartment, but that's a worthy risk since the lens is garbage anyway without the repair.

Good Luck!

Kudos to you. The release "button" on my old Zuiko 135mm f2.8 broke so I opened the lens to try to fix it. I was successful at that but somehow turned it to a f5.6 lens cause I couldn't line up the aperture ring correctly. I thought fixing a manual focus lens would be easy lol
