Has anyone else ever just hit a dry spell, where you are just not getting work? Been kind of depressed about it, even though male models around here seem to be in little demand. But especially being an alt.

Yeah, most of us go through that at some point.  There's not much demand for alt male models, so just have fun with your modeling if you enjoy it, don't put too much pressure on yourself.

Yup all the damn time. Sometimes it can be a dry spell for a few months and all of sudden everyone wants to work with me. Just hang in there.

Hold on, hang on, it should pass.

p.s. I'm in my own little dry spell though due to relocating from Alaska to my new place [soon] and it looks like I will have to put the halt to a NY trip that I'd planned in September, (will have to move it to February next year maybe.) Patience is hard!

Happens to the best of 'em. In 2008 I hit a really bad dry spell with work in the photo industry as many did. Facebook and etc... didn't help, seeing posts from others about cool jobs they were on.

It's all about what you do with the down time. Think about and keep focused on the big picture. It's a long ride.

A bit of self marketing never hurts.

A quick and easy way is to post (legit) questions or replies in threads, with a link back to you (if relevant in your topic).

Go through local photographers on this site and post a comment about how good their work is.

Consider doing some TFP work during your 'rut', with a new photographer, just to get some new pics and contacts, as well as trying new stuff.

Put out a 'travel' notification?

Use facebook & twitter to find communities that might be able to utilize your look or pics for advertising, promotion, etc.

Just some thoughts.

Thats when you work on marketing and honing your craft further.

There's extremely very little model photography going on in Tucson. I mean like almost none I haven't already worked with. So yeah, it's a constant dry spell.

I'd like to add that this is probably a good time to Schedule shoots that will bring something new to your portfolio.

Keep finding castings, contact some photographers and clients and ask how theyre doing. Try to contact new ones.

The busier you will make yourself, the less time you will have for gloomy feelings... been there, done it!

Hang in there, but keep focused and busy.

Maybe try other looks instead of alternative and broaden your opportunities.

Alternative is quite popular but not everyone shoots it.

Yeah, it sucks to feel forgotten.

Find ways to keep busy, perhaps network more, and/or post availability notices?

I found that for the first time since I started again, a dry spell. I doubled my efforts t promoting myself, in the usual ways as I used to, to no avail. No changes. I realized the way I marketed myself changed, and who I was marketing to had changed. Retailers close down, galleries go out of business, client lists with decision makers are no longer in the positions anymore.. so naturally, you need to promote differently.

I find it helps to break everything down, and re-invent and do something completely new and different in your promotional efforts.

When you hit that dry spell, do something different. Try a new avenue to promote yourself. Maybe it's even leaving flyers over the urinal (I kid you not I've come face to face with a photographer's ad like that before)
big_smile

It's natural, all businesses have different trends.. usually mine was between the january - march area, but I was busy then, this year, and before that I was busy to the point of forgetting where I parked the car (while at home, I had to consciously think to myself: did i remember to drive the car home ?..oh yeah, i'm home now..) but now since I changed up so much and moved around, this dry spell has changed too

I've kind of hit one as of late.
Last year I was pretty busy and had photographer's messaging me to shoot quite a bit - this year not so much.

Oh well, such is life. In a way it's ok though because I've gotten a ton more hours that I have to work at my "real" job.

Shame about the distance, I'd work with the OP and many others in this thread.
