. Jul 22 14 02:43 am Link This guy agrees with Clint . . . . . . course he died of lung cancer, maybe his widow should sue . . . several of the "MM" guys died from smoking related causes, some of their widows DID sue, to date, none have won the lawsuits . . . SOS Jul 22 14 04:44 am Link No way this is holding up on appeal Zero chance Jul 22 14 04:57 am Link WR Photographics wrote: My Question was badly worded. What I meant to say is how can a company knowingly make a product that can possibly kill or cause severe health issues and yet not be held to any kind of account for that product that damages through proper use?? Jul 22 14 05:11 am Link my thoughts...personal responsibility and personal accountability have died in the US. (I am an ex smoker...but nobody ever forced me to purchase cigarettes and smoke them) Jul 22 14 06:17 am Link AdelaideJohn1967 wrote: lets list the products which cause deaths daily yet are legal. Even in countries like Canada, where health care is government funded, cigarettes are legal (though very heavily taxed). In Canada, tobacco taxes account for a huge revenue stream. Smokers probably pay for over half of our health care system, while in reality add very little to the cost of the system. Jul 22 14 08:01 am Link How in the wide world of sports is it an abdication of personal responsibility, or the introduction of a nanny state, to say that we don't particularly care for companies trying to get toxins into our citizens' bloodstreams? Yes, there are lots of things that are dangerous. Generally, it's a risk/reward balance. There is no balance with tobacco. It's the equivalent of offering cyanide supplements for drinks. "Hey, why shouldn't I sell it if they're stupid enough to buy it?" It's not being a nanny state to say, "No, it's wrong to poison people. End of line." Jul 22 14 08:46 am Link Smokers are a huuuuuuuge plus for our system. They pay tons in taxes, pay higher premiums, and die sooner. It's the "healthier" people, in the end stages, that suck up a lot of resources for a long period of time. Someone has to make up that money. As for a legal product, with detrimental effects, and whether or not the companies should be forced to remove their products or pay hefty fines/awards: 2/3 of your local grocery store would be empty if the producers were held to a higher standard of health. And everybody would piss and moan about not being able to buy the things they want. Jul 22 14 08:58 am Link |
