I know your link is well-intended, but will possibly get called out for spam.

As a new model – 6 – 12 pictures is adequate to present yourself to a new agency. 20 should be a maximum – but only if they are 20 “WOW” pictures. Good pictures don’t make the grade.

As far as presenting one's self to an agency, I'd say a few snapshots and a walk-in are usually enough to get things rolling. The portfolio will come later, after the model is sent out for tests, and the agency will put together the book and include what they want.
