Hi,

I have some acne scarring on the temples (sides) of my face. Even though these can be photoshopped, should I tell the photographer about them before we meet up?

Honest is a good policy.

Why not let them know?

Yes. A good HMUA/MUA would be able to minimize it, and certain styles of lighting will also hide the scars. But it is nice to be aware beforehand.
BTW, you are amazingly gorgeous! I wish you were closer to AZ smile

If they're noticeable, you can't cover them, or there's no MUA then probably. I have some really old acne scarring that won't seem to go away (aside from that, my skin is great. I just used to struggle with bad acne when I was younger) but it's so easily covered, just a tad bit of BB cream covers them right up. If I'm doing a shoot and there's no MUA I go the extra mile and prime my face, use a green correcting concealer then a foundation and if I need a little extra concealer I put that on and set with an HD powder (it blurs out imperfections) and you would never know. Acne scarring is MUCH easier to cover than regular acne since it's just spots of uneven color as opposed to bumps. Plus, it can easily be photoshopped out.

If its minimal, i wouldn't bother saying anything. Cover it up before you get to the set, and even if the photographer can still notice, it's not the end of the world. It's a sensitive issue and they will take care of it if need be.

I had BAD acne as a teenager and still have some scarring, it's concealable, and i've never told a photog beforehand because a) i can cover it b) so can the MUA c) so can the photog, if you know what i mean

obviously, it goes without saying that if the scarring is very noticeable, with bumps and whatnot, then it's best to throw it out there

I'd prefer to know beforehand. Fore-warned is fore-armed.

And how helpful would that be for a photographer who doesn't use photoshop?  You should always have some clear unretouched images of yourself available (what are still often called Polaroids).  This is usually enough for these sorts of problems.

Wouldn't matter to me. I'm a full Retoucher as well as a Photographer, so if it was something that bothered you, we could talk about it while we were shooting and I would make a note to remove the scars during post-process. My previous modeling experience made me learn Retouching so that I could be sensitive to my models' needs. Believe me. I know how you feel. We all have stuff about our bodies that bother us. wink

However, not everyone has access to Photoshop, so it is nice to just verbally tell the photographer before you shoot, just in case they are not able to remove things like this for you. smile

I'd be really ticked-off.  I think that you should mention it in your profile.

Also, I would like to see your face larger than any of the images in your portfolio -- retouched or not.

I decided to disclose it in my profile, just so it's out of the way and I don't have to worry about it with future photographers. Thank you for the advice.
