The judge is a slack-jawed idiot.

She ordered that his hard drive, memory cards and tower unit be destroyed, but allowed him to keep his photography equipment.

My thought is that photo shoots like most things people do involve some risk.   With over half a million members and even more shoots happening, we will hear about bad things happening to MM members, including bad things that happen on MM shoots.

Model Mayhem offers no magical immunity from risk and I think it's unfortunate and unfair MM sometimes gets bad publicity for things that are life risks and not controlled by MM.

I've certainly read incidents here of members dying in car accidents. One recent thread here includes shoot related reports of severe dehydration, reactions to body paint, and getting hit by a falling strobe.  I remember one photographer here talking about how a studio floor collapsed on a shoot.

As with all other things in life, we should rationally consider all the potential risks in a shoot and take reasonable precautions, but not be paranoid.

As for this case specifically, I'm glad they caught the guy.

I wonder if people realize that bad things were happening over at OMP before there was an MM. OR, before there was the internet. Life can be dangerous, it's up to the individual to make due diligence.

The risk was already there with or without MM being involved, this creep/monster would of still found a way to find and lure young impressionable women into his trap of lies and abuse.

One thing that we can do as a community is to maybe do a better job and informing these young starting out models of the "potential" for danger, not a scare tactic or to cause undo anxiety but just as information, how to proceed and what to look for?

Make it a part of the signing up process where they have to read a short informative web page first and maybe agree that they have read it before full registration is confirmed.

As a service to those who we work with and a decent people who care.

Just a thought.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peeping_Tom_(film) British film from 1960 about a photographer who goes around killing his models for sexual purposes.

Nothing new is there?

Zero correlation between the severity of punishment and the level of offending.
