The Best Paying Jobs / Careers of 2014.

Hmmm -- seems like you need a college degree (probably an advanced degree) to get those high paying jobs.

I wonder where "Photographer" and "Model" fall on that list?

I guess they missed the whole IT industry. MANY IT people make more than your average doctor or lawyer.

Average presales engineer for an IT manufacturer makes around $130k.
An average account executive for a hardware manufacturer makes around $150-200k. We have two or three reps which make 7 figures.

I've been in a presales role for at least 17 years and have an associates degree. IT is a little different than most industries in that you don't have to have a degree to succeed. (not that a degree won't help accelerate your earning potential)

It is not surprising at all.  I was wondering why they did not include the raiders in Wall Street.  Their annual income are often measured by ten of millions.  smile

I noticed the same. I'm in Cyber Security, employers are desperate for experienced people in my field. I could probably get a 15-20K raise if I looked for another job and haggled. I like where I am.

I'm on the search committee for a new systems admin (linux / storage) and our top applicant has just an associates in computer science (but significant practical experience and certifications) 2 year degree = $80K? Not bad.

IT changes like crazy. By the time you'd finish college a lot of the stuff you learned would already be obsolete.

But does the average IT worker make more than the average doctor or lawyer.. that's the question.

I think you'd be surprised at what the average IT worker makes

The change rate for security is a LOT more however. I was out of the storage industry at one time right after 9/11. 3 years later the basics were still the same. A protocol was added, drives were bigger and faster software had progressed, but he basic principles still applied.

I doubt it since I employ alot of them.

But I don't see that the median IT worker salary would be higher than $113,000.

There are *alot* of low paid IT people and they are going to swamp out the relatively few that are much higher.

I was going to be a pharmacist. I had a quarter life crisis and decided I'd be fucking miserable despite all the money so now I'm a starving artist.
