I moved from Pittsburgh to Boston about two years ago and still find it hard to make friends. One of the "friends" I made stole my license (to use as a fake ID) and money, so needless to say I don't speak to her. I live with my fiance who is my best friend so I'm grateful, but I'd love some girlfriends to go to the mall with and watch Netflix and eat amazing noms lol. Help me!

Next...find a hobby you're really into. Check meet up.com and perhaps focus on meet ups that are for women. Do those hobbies together.

Boston is not a friendly place. I have lived here since 2008, and still do not have a local friend "circle." It's part of the culture. People around here tend to want to only hang out with people they grew up with.

Yea once I start working it will be easier. I've had 4 surgeries this past year so that could also be why. Meetup.com is a great idea. Thanks Chris .

I'm in the same boat. I've been in NM about a year. You'd think I'd make some friends as a full time college student but nooooo.

Help me! 1) I always figure that the best thing to do to meet people is to get busy. Take some adult education classes -- volunteer to work in the community theater -- become a regular at the art gallery: basically, find an activity that interests you and that you do regularly. 2) Don't be shy about approaching people. 3) Organize the local Boston artistic photography community: ... Compile a list of resources, people, locations, etc. ... Host a meet & greet, ... Organize group projects and/or shows. 4) Finally, remember: ... A shared experience is better than a face-to-face meeting, ... A face-to-face meeting is better than a phone call, ... A phone call is better than an e-mail, ... An e-mail is better than a tweet, and ... A tweet is better than a Facebook post.

Part of the city is old blood and conservative, but the other parts are very friendly. Consider that it's a large college town with a young crowd and a huge tourist trade, there's never been a problem. Always lots to do and plenty to see in that area. You just need to develop some interests and get out to meet people. Most of my friends were from the advertising and modeling agencies, but also photographers, sailing enthusiasts, foodies and much more. Cap Cod, Provence Town, Mount Dessert Island, Ipswich, Martha's Vineyard are all near by.
