The YN300W - 300Ws, TTL (canon optical as well as 622 compatibility)

Currently $450 from unauthorized vendors (its not on their official store yet.) From what I've seen on wholesale costs, I expect it to be under $300 once it hits authorized vendors / Amazon.

Not too shabby. I think I'll be picking one up sometime soon.

I do not believe they will be able to compete with AlienBees in that price range. They would have had to introduce something that would be interesting, but TTL in a strobe is kind of a useless feature. Plus AB comes with a variety of stuff that works together nicely (like Vagabond minis).... I dunno. I want Yungs to succeed, and this is a first step, but I hope there'll be a second one soon smile

Profoto has had success with their B1 500 AirTTL battery powered monolights and more manufacturers will be bringing their versions online.

If this is as good as the flashes they are putting out it would be worth every cent.
I have a whole suitcase full of flashes and they all work great. Not one has failed...yet.
They allow me to set up several multi flash stands around in a remote area and not have to take a power source other than a bag of Powerex batteries.
I hope the mono works as well.

Oh they are battery powered? I just don't see it anywhere. If they are then I take what I said back

Actually it's my confusion. I confused it with the Phottix Indira500TTL that's both AC and battery powered.

How much of that success has been down to the TTL and how much down to it being a powerful self-contained unit with quick setup time and no potentially hazardous leads ?

TTL in a monobloc or pack light setup is something that I do not understand where it fits in as being a key feature. They tend to be used in circumstances where you are in control of things and you want to stay in control of things. Classic case being Bride & groom where TTL of the pair of them might balance out the white and the black to give an OK exposure but then individually TTL can mess up.

i could see TTL being good if you are constantly moving the lights around and IF you only had ONE light..

I can see the TTL feature being of real value outside shooting models moving toward or away from you. Having to keep a fixed distance from a model is not a big deal in the  studio, but I almost always switch to speedlites outside because of movement forward and backward.

This new offering from YongNuo could be very interesting if the price point is around $300.

As someone who almost always shoots on location a TTL strobe would be very welcome. Even better if it had a good size lithium battery built in like the N-Flash.

...just remember Alien Bees are not easily available outside of the US.  If I want to order Alien Bees: I've got to order direct and use a freight forwarding company to ship it.  I've got the exchange rate to figure out, the import custom duties.

I was going to order from Australia and did the maths and the Alien Bees ended up being about twice as expensive as some local options.  Then Alien Bees severed there relationship with their Australian and European licence holders meaning I had to order direct from the States: and then the pricing got so out of hand I stopped even thinking about it.  So while they might not be able to compete with Alien Bees: there is a huge market out there for the equivalent of Alien Bees.  And a TTL strobe at that price point (if it works and if it is real) is something that would be seriously considered by many.

My strobes are all over 8 years old now and had planned to replace them all with Einsteins as they died out. The past month I'm down a strobe and my vagabond unit broke over a week ago. Since PCB has pulled out of Australia they are far from a feasible solution when it comes to replacement and repairs. The company that were handling their stock is now T-One and selling rebranded Godox strobes QT series which look like a good alternative with up to 1200w/s models. What I'm really wanting though are TTL & HSS in my strobes like in my speedlites and can also be used both AC/battery configurations. This will allow more seamless wireless integration/control and faster setups for location work which I do a lot of. Most of the new strobes I've found the past year ticks 2 of these but the Phottix Indra500 looks like it does all (though still wish it more powerful). The Yongnuo's have a great pricepoint for what they are but when investing in lights that will probably have a 5-10year working life I'd choose based on usable features first and price second.

Good point, haven't thought of that. Even when I order ABs I order them to US and the drive and pick them up, otherwise it's a big pain in the ass

No way in hell I can operate in these conditions without TTL/autofill(that my q flashes can)

of course I love the portability of the q flashes ,but I saw the Prophoto B1 and it could be as portable albeit way out of my price range...if Godox/someone makes one of those I could be interested

Look forward to seeing the first editorial reviews and maybe customer comments. Would also want to wait until this hits Amazon or another US based vendor before ordering, since you would NOT want to pay the return shipping cost to China if its defective or your not happy with it.
