Hellloooo Everybody!!

I joined a couple months ago, but never really took the time to figure out how to start networking with people until now.

First, my name is Audriana, or Audrey, I reside in Virginia and I'm a new face when it comes to with this modeling thing. But I'm getting the hang of it -- forgive my grammer and spelling lol.

Anyway, to be specific, I want to be a commercial/print/promo model. The models that are in fashion magazines, promote clothes on online websites like forever21 or any boutique stores, and in commercials.

Right now, I'm building my portfolio and taking my time to learn more about the modeling world and looking at agencies that I want to be with ..

If anybody has any advice on how to get myself out there, start doing print/promo work, or any tips -- feel free to let me know!

Your profile, and this forum are visible to every scammer & pervert in the world. Therefore, it is a bad idea to display your "social info", especially email, here & in your profile! Strongly advise you to remove them right away, and be very selective about who gets them. Don't trust random unsolicited contacts you get through those sources. It is an open invitation to scammers, etc.

Although I agree with removing the OP's email address. There is absolutely no reason to remove the other "social info"

Thanks! I pretty much get on what to look out for as if someone's legit or not. So it would be best to just give email when asked for it when it's legit work instead of putting it up on my profile?

There is no advantage to putting any personal info on your profile, and very real potential disadvantages.  If you have a Facebook profile that is ONLY for modeling, and has no personal info, and is linked to your model email, then sure you can link it.  If you link your personal FB, I can find everything on there, and by browsing you/your friends posts, I can see where you went to school, where you hang out, where you work, where you and your friends are going out tonight and all the stuff you don't want me to see.  Keep your personal life and modeling life totally separate. Don't 'like' your FB model page from your personal page, and delete your personal friend's likes off your model page.  It's too easy to find you through your friends FB if they like your model page.  Better to be extra careful.
Once you start chatting about shoots, you may want to share sample pics, which you can't do easily on MM. So giving someone your email is sometimes necessary.  It should be your model email.  Your FB page is linked to your email. You need 2 of each, your model FB linked to your model email, and your personal FB linked to your personal email, just like it already is. Never give your personal FB/email to someone from MM, there's no need.  People from MM contact you through MM; you're already set.

Starting with her MM profile it took me 10 seconds to find out where the OP works.  YES it is important to eliminate all personal info from a model's profile, unless it's OK for ANYONE to get all the info they have scattered all over the internet, without her knowledge.  Models should have a stage name, a separate email and separate social media accounts with zero cross over between accounts; two totally different and separate identities.  Maybe it's paranoid, but better safe than sorry.  People from MM can contact via MM.  That's good enough.

Welcome to the Mayhem hienvy

Good ways to network are:

Post an availability notice letting people know that you are available (under the casting/travel tab). This is for when you want to charge money. You can offer trade as well.

Search for Casting Calls in your area based on criteria you select. Post a Casting Call letting people know about an idea you have and want to put into a work of art. This is for when you are willing to pay other people. You can offer trade as well.

Search or Post Casting Calls and Travel/Availability Notices
Official Casting Call Rules - Read
Find the talent and resources you need on Model Mayhem

Browse for photographers in your area and leave comments on images you like, send a friend request or message. Start a list of photographer's photos that you think are top notch for photographers in your area. This can become something of a Rolodex. Make sure that you select the Advanced Options and select an appropriate Logged in within:. I typically use 30 days, but you may want people who respond faster. Otherwise you will get photographers who haven't logged in in over a year. There are a lot of inactive accounts.

Make an announcemnet. Look on the front page for members offering comments for comments, and comment on their photos. Also make an announcement yourself.

Post a bulletin by going to My stuff > bulletins. Friends can see the bulletins you post.

Be active in the forums, but avoid trolls who start threads just to watch the ensuing flame war. Avoid threads that beat the deadhorse over GWC's, flakes, escorts, ..., etc. Make positive constructive comments. Whenever you get published, add some new photos, or accomplish anything in general, post an announcement in the Accomplishments, Achievements and High Fives forum. When people see your forum post the first thing they see is your avatar. It has to be interesting enough for them to want to click on it and look at your portfolio.

Share your other accounts on the Social Media User Name Sharing Thread.

Rinse and repeat.

Good luck in your search!
