Yeah, that's what I'm doing all day now - spelling out numbers less than ten, moving sentences around, being annoying.

Actually, the first piece I turned in was "too perfect," and I've had to work on being less precise about stuff, because apparently, I'm turning informational books into scholarly journals, and they really don't want that.

I'm having to relearn how to write badly. It's kind of weird, but fun at the same time. It has to be published at a level where it can be read and understood by "a smart 5th grader."

If any of my elementary school teachers were still alive, they'd be rolling in their graves. I had an exceptional language education growing up, because all my teachers were old mountain ladies, who grew up in one-room school houses and still had that smack-your-knuckles with a ruler mentality. My first grade teacher actually tried to convert me to right-handedness, which didn't work at all.
