I have been working at my computer all day on a big project and need a break. I have decided to take a one hour break to take a look at other peoples portfolio and hopefully give some useful advice on what you should look to improve upon to get you a step ahead. I have worked in America, Europe and Asia so ask away, if you have any specific questions dont hesitate to shoot them at me. My photographic background www.davidsheldrick.com David EDIT: Will slowly work through these in my spare time

I'll take you up on that. As far as questions go… what's the project? If you don't mind. TIA

TIA Hi Laurence, You are getting some pretty good images but I feel that if you worked on some more interesting colour grading on your images you can really elevate them. Also in your case I would cut your portfolio down to just 5-6 of your strongest and contact agencies for new faces and if you arent using a stylist already I think that will really benefit your work. You can get good headshots but maybe try working on a 6-10 image series with a team and see how that goes?

Images by MR wrote: Yes plz. Your images are mediocre and you need to shoot more. You should try maybe finding photographers that you love or certain image series that you like and try to emulate them. Your images need more interesting posing/fashion/composition. Try looking at the work of Guy Bourdin or Bruce Weber for some inspiration. Some of their shots are very simple but still absolutely awesome.

kaydooms wrote: Ill take it! Hi Kay, If you want to make money doing this your going to have to spend money. So far you dont have a strong enough headshot, half body of full body. If you can get a strong set of these images you can scrap the rest of your images. I suggest hunting down the best 2-3 photographers in your area and see if you can get a relatively cheap shoot with them with a stylist make up artist and hair stylist. Otherwise you might spend ages testing with pretty average photographers getting pretty average images.

Emily Maddison wrote: Would love to know. Hi Emily, you wouldnt make a fashion model but you could do well in pin up, glamour and alternative. Some of your images are nice but still not strong enough for me to want to work together. You need to test more with photographers so you can get more images and experience, and hopefully find your market. D

Brian Paul Photography wrote: Can't wait - thx Hi Brian, Your work is actually quite cool, I like your choice of models and your images are well balanced. I suggest maybe trying to work on a more substantial project, maybe doing a really urban 6-10 look image series shooting in the streets with a cool model and a team? I think that focusing on creating a strong set of images that all stick together is the next step.

PhotoByWayne wrote: How do you market yourself to prospective clients? Hi Wayne, I have a large body of work covering all kinds of concepts and aesthetic styles. I try to fill in all the gaps in my body of work if I see them, and also try to emulate anything new and fresh that I see that I would like to have in my portfolio. You have to shoot to the point where you have developed your own particular style that only you can deliver and that is what will really attract a client. When I have a client get in touch I will customise my portfolio, for example if Nike contact me, I will reduce the amount of high fashion im showing and put in more fitness images. If it is a skin product company I will throw in alot of headshots and beauty images. I shoot alot of editorial for magazines which is the best way, not only because of the exposure from the magazine, but over time you will get to meet loads of people working in the industry and I actually find most of my clients come through recommendations through people I have worked/ tested with in the past. I hope this helps! Clients can be a tough question as certain areas might have smaller/larger industries and so different methods will be more effective.

Sandra Valero wrote: Pleeease please I could do with some advice!! ^_^ Hi Sandra, You need to be more careful about what colours you are choosing, and blend them more carefully when applying it. Your make up looks quite heavy in most of your images, your top row are the best. The make up in your fourth image is brilliant, its well balanced and works with the fashion and the models bone structure really well. You need to cut your portfolio down, their are quite a few images there that I feel bring down your portfolio and it could be much stronger with just 6-8 of your absolute best. You should also look at finding photographers who have specialised in beauty. D

Pass is jkreimer I'm using "Gershon" as my artist name, and eventually moving that stuff to www.jorgekreimer.com as per the advice of my agent. Thank you in advance.

Would love your feedback on mine. New to MM, and have been focused on fashion for a few months - did street photography and landscapes before that. Thanks!
