I'm thinking of getting an A7 camera (probably the R) but I'm wondering something.

Is there a way to make it so that, after you've made an exposure, the image only comes up on the main LCD on the back and not in the viewfinder?  I tried one in the store today and that was extremely annoying.  I want the viewfinder to only show the live image and not the image I just took.

Any ideas?

AFAIK the view finder and the LCD panel display the same thing you can set the camera to use one or the other depending on the amount of light detected by the viewfinder.

You can turn off the review function and the image you took will not show on either the LCD panel nor in the view finder and maintains live view, I have my A7 set up this way.

I don't know the answer specifically, but I've looked at a few demo A7's, and they were all kinds of jacked up. Apparently it's really easy to screw up the settings in the menu system. At B&H I actually suspected my salesman of sabotaging the demo cameras, since they were so uniformly trashed.

I do know a lot of EVF cameras operate that way -forced image review through the EVF. I can tell you the Fuji X-T1 does not do that.

That function should be there. On my A99, you can turn the evf feature off in the viewfinder where it will on show up on the back. I think that the feature will on display what's in the viewfinder when you're trying to focus etc.

Hmm. Ok. I'll see if I can find the manual online and have a look.

Thanks!

Menu button > Settings (menu) > Auto review (1st page)> off, 10sec, 5sec ,2sec , off

First reply is correct according to my a7s.  Now I need to figure out how to move my focus point around and set a back focus button (maybe C1)

Ok. Thanks guys. Looks like it won't do what I want. I'll play a bit more in the store to see if that's a deal breaker.

I'm really liking the form factor and general features of the camera but the evf thing is really giving me pause.

I have the A7R and I have it set so auto-review is OFF. It doesn't show me what my last shot was unless I hit the PLAY button. I can view my last shot through either the EVF or on the LCD screen on the back of the camera, but only when I hit the PLAY button. With the camera set up this way I can stretch the battery life from a single charge to about 2000 full-size raw shots per charge.

Sort of.

If you set it to not automatically show each shot, you'll have what you want, though you'll have to hit play to see the photos on the LCD.

Set the viewfinder/LCD selection to Auto and turn off auto review.

Yes it came be set up that way. It was annoying the hell out of me. That was the first thing I did when I bought mine. You can almost set it up to shoot as your canon and nikon does. Gary Fong has a video and I believe an e-book on this.
