About Me

Jerold Schnauss has been involved in photography for forty years.  Having worked with film for many years, in more recent times he primarily works digitally.  Over those years Jerold has primarily photographed women, striving to show the beauty, personality and even the imperfections of the many models with whom he has worked.  It is not always about being pretty or "perfect" but more of capturing the mood, feeling and depth of the moment and the experience...His images often tell a story, that both reflect his unique style, and the individual qualities of his subjects.   He is an artist, and does not actively pursue the commercial side of photography.  Each photo shoot is a true collaboration between photographer and model.  His directing is subtle and low key, allowing the model to explore and express herself serendipitously as the shoot evolves and unfolds.  There may be a point of departure, but where things go from there?--The shoot goes where it goes, as the energies and intuition of the participants express themselves in whatever ways they may.  Though very professional, you will find Jerold's approach to be relaxed, undemanding and generally fun!

During the late 1980's, Jerold studied photography at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, where he received his BFA degree, photography emphasis.  His work has been in publications, and exhibited in galleries.  For some years, he taught photography locally, and  has hosted a photography-related show on Access Tucson television.  He primarily shoots on location, often outdoors, and prefers working with natural lighting.  His shoots are typically kept simple, as it is the skill of the photographer and model that leads to the creation of outstanding imagery, not having a ton of equipment, and complicated set-ups.  Themes vary according to  individual preferences.  Those themes may range from soft and romantic, to more edgy...even dark and disturbing; including surreal, fantasy, fetish and erotic.

Jerold is mature and reliable.  He expects the same from the people with whom he works.  For him, each photo session is an honor, and an opportunity for those involved to further enhance their skills and portfolios.  Models must be 18 or older, no exceptions.

"The sheer wildness of your art is heartening – and refreshing, like the crisp air at a waterfall, vivid and pure and starkly true. Most ostensibly erotic art is so tightly locked into stereotypes that it’s hardly erotic at all, almost anti-erotic. Your art like a chaotic torrential stream sweeps all expectations and notions away, opening into a direct immersion in that rarest of experiences – erotic authenticity. What you create cannot be achieved or seen as a style. It can only be lived. This is what makes it so strong. It lives at the core of the core, quintessence, actual feeling.  No reply expected – this is just out-of-the-blue fan mail."  K

"...Your models are not only classic beauties, they emote so well too. Your pics remind me of the great times of bold nakedness on screen .. the 60's and 70's with actresses like Brigitte Bardot lighting up the screen and young people's dreams."  - Sharad G.

"You are one of the best in capturing (the) real woman that I've come across..."  - Walter L.

"His photos challenge and inspire me to do a better job with mine.  His words bring wisdom, insight and an intensity only matched by a few others I have met.  He's an amazing man....And he's a wonderful photographer."
- Kat Hemrich

"Jerry is an extremely talented artist; his photos reflect someone with an extremely interesting and intriguing perspective on life. He uses colours, tones, light and dark in order to create some extremely appealing photographs, all with their own stories and characters. He photographs models who are all striking, each in their own individual way, captured from various angles and in different poses according to the theme and location...I am a huge fan of Jerry's work and also greatly appreciate his thoughtfulness and encouragement with my own pieces art. He regularly leaves an encouraging or jovial comment or response to my posts, for which I am extremely grateful...All in all, a wonderful man and friend, Love you sweet pea!" - Sky x

It's been said, "a picture is worth a thousand words" so check out my portfolio to get a better idea of my style and genres with which I work.  Thanks!

And just remember...Life is sweet.

Besides the Model Mayhem models listed above, I would also like to thank the beautiful and inspirational Miss Erin.  Though not officially a "model" the she is one of the most beautiful, expressive women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and photographing.  Someone.  Somewhere.  Some place out there...I will always remember you, Erin.

Thanks to Pamela, a true inspiration from long-ago-Missouri; to Barbara, my loving wife, and everyone who in any way has contributed to my journey as a photographer and artist, or in any other way has enriched my experience in this life.
