from Amazon.com:

In 2003, Guido Argentini’s first book, Silvereye, presented an exquisite series of studio and landscape nudes encased in shimmering silver body paint. That work was a reflection of the artist’s great personal passion for sculpture and dance. In his second book, Private Rooms, Mr. Argentini offers an entirely different type of personal journey, one where eroticism and beauty are clearly inseparable. Within these pages, we are invited to take a glimpse into a unique ‘feminine universe’. A universe where even the most squalid of motel rooms and the most lavish of five-star suites become the theaters of the artist’s self-directed voyeuristic fantasies, featuring some of the most beautiful women you’ve never heard of before.

Mr. Argentini was born and raised in Florence, Italy. He spent three years attending medical school before deciding, at the tender age of 23, to follow his passions and pursue an uncertain future towards a career as a fashion and beauty photographer. He currently lives in the U.S.A., spending the majority of his time between Los Angeles and Miami. It is certainly clear, with credits that include work for Vogue, Playboy, Black+White, Max, and many others, that he made a good decision in choosing careers.

In fact, Guido Argentini’s talent behind the lens is certainly not in question here. It’s obvious from the front cover to the very last page that he knows exactly what he is doing. His images, with one or two exceptions, are flawlessly exposed and executed. The models, each and every one, are exquisite objects of beauty and desire, and they are perfectly posed and positioned. The camera angles are strategic in how they force the viewer to take in the images and to question what will happen in the next moment. There are no unwanted distractions or missing details in these rooms, and each scene seems to be carefully constructed, with every item in its precise place. I couldn’t avoid the overwhelming feeling that the photographer has considered every detail, and factored in all of the myriad possibilities of each and every image. Here, it seems evident that he has labored to provide us his own personal showcase of nudes.

What is particularly impressive is Guido Argentini’s ability to find such perfect models to work with. He would have us believe, in his introduction, that his models are just friends and acquaintances. By his own admission, some are certainly professional models, but for others he suggests that they are simply participants in a “game? of his own making. Whether or not these women are ‘professional models’ or girls off of the street is entirely irrelevant, they are all certainly model material and should be recognized as such.

What is fascinating about Private Rooms are the mysteries that many of the images create. This is pictorial, erotic storytelling at its very best. Mr. Argentini seems to see no need to overstate the obvious or to wallow in the mire of vulgarity, as many photographers and publishers seem wanton to do. Here, we are presented enough information to imagine the rest of the story on our own. The artist and the publisher, TeNeues, have successfully produced a book where we are encouraged to use our own imagination to fill in the blanks. These days, it seems more and more publishers are pushing artists to produce hardcore material, rather than fine art nudes. With Private Rooms, Guido Argentini has successfully managed to create an impressive volume of beautifully photographed, exquisite women, without relying on in-your-face flesh to arouse our desires. Here, the models are treated with the respect and sophistication they obviously are accustomed to, and for my money, that makes this book worth owning.
