I started photographing myself back in 1997. Though I've improved quite a bit, some things are best left to the experts and I'm enjoying seeing myself as others catch me.
Some people think I look like Marilyn Manson, but I don't let that stop me. Kidding. I adore the man, but I'm not limited by him. While I love the pancake makeup and SFX lenses as much as the next guy, I don't hide behind them and I clean up pretty well. I'm expressive, adventurous, unshockable and interested in your ideas. Sacrilege? Sure. Drug themes? Why not. Porn? Nice try!
When I come to a shoot I bring ID, my own makeup/hair things (unless you're providing them), a good attitude, my sense of humor, and a willingness to work hard to get the shot you came for. And probably several you hadn't counted on, but will be thrilled to have. I'm okay at self-posing but work best with a little direction/suggestions. Music is deeply engrained in my head. It helps me remember, it helps me forget, and the right soundtrack will make a great shoot into something magical.
I'm based in Ohio (God's bargain basement) at present but make semi-frequent trips to NYC as well as occasional hops to Chicago and Los Angeles. I've been spotted in Detroit and Pittsburgh as well. Gas money is always appreciated and I've also been known to accept bribes of food, clothing, crash space, candy, liquor, and other creature comforts. My middle name is Barter. But if you want to
pay me outright, I'm not going to fight you.
I look damn fine in most of my photos, and frequently part of the blame lies on the stylist. While I can do my own hair and makeup passably well, I really recommend hair/makeup artists. I've worked with several and I've really loved the extra dimension their efforts have given the finished photos. Less work for me, more work for them, everyone's happy.
Photography for me, from either side of the lens, is my way of leaving my dirty little fingerprints on the world. I want to bring back mystery, to find where the magic went. I want eyes wide with wonder and dilated from want. I am your question mark. What is your question?
