Hello everyone,
My name is Robert but I prefer Rob and I am a photographer in the Annapolis Maryland area. I received my first camera around 16 years of age and became smitten with the ability to freeze moments of time and place in an image. At an earlier time in my artistic life I had been interested in drawing but once I picked up a camera, I found the satisfaction that drawing never gave me. Several years out of school, between life and work, my time for photography dwindled. It was relegated to vacations and special occasions. Several years ago, looking to fill up some free time, I picked up the camera again in earnest. I rediscovered the satisfaction that I got from creating interesting and beautiful images. After having all my old film camera gear stolen I bought my first digital camera. With my new camera in hand I had a renewed enthusiasm for photography and then I decided to go back to school. When I took my first photography class "lo and behold" they wanted me to have a film camera. So I begrudgingly bought another film camera. To my surprise, through that first black-and-white class, I found that I enjoyed working in the wet darkroom. I threw myself headlong into film and wet darkroom work. As my access and time to work in the wet darkroom grew harder to come by, I turned back toward digital photography. I have enjoyed this side of photography just as much as film. So I have worked on both sides of the fence and I am fairly confident in my skills from the old wet darkroom days to the new digital age.
I enjoy and practice almost all the different facets of photography from still life, to abstract, to portraiture and figure work. I believe there are things that you can learn from any of these categories that can better your overall skill as a photographer. Currently some of my favorite interests right now are the alternative processes like cyanotypes and van dyke brown prints.
