I've never recieved any photos from at least 8 photographers I've been stiffed on a paid shoot agreement Been stiffed when a photographer offered to pay for gas Had one photographer not show up Had at least two photographers that I know of only take photos of cleavage and ass without letting me know (and no it wasn't for artistic reasons) Had one photographer try and 'feel me up But models are the ones that show up with crazy boyfriends, never reply emails, no shows, unproffessional and so on. Just wanted to even the score. Like not all models are flakes not all photographers are.

Chelsey, it sounds like you've had a run of extraordinarily bad luck! If I may ask, do you make a habit of checking references prior to booking shoots? I've found that to be extremely helpful in steering clear of potentially irritating or hazardous situations.

tell it! i tend to think there are a good bunch of photographers that still do this for all the wrong reasons even though they are legit. Hopefully you were listed as a reference for the photographers and you can tell the future models how your bad experience was.

Usually when I do a paid shoot, I cut the check immediately after the shoot. A funny side-note. One time... a long time ago, I did a shoot with this model. I was paying her and all. Well we had such a good time laughing and stuff durring the shoot that when I dropped her off at her house I forgot to pay her.. She sat there in the passenger seat. I sat there looking at her.. wondering what she was waiting for.. "GET OUT OF MY DAMN CAR ALREADY".. She said, "I thought I was getting paid for this".. Ooops.. Doh! I felt like a jackass. Wrote her the check. We both laughed it off though.

No it was just a plain out stiff, and I'm not the type of person to ask for it cause it really wasn't a significant amount, but its more like the integrity of the person!

For slow to no CDs, bring your own blank CDR just in case they pull the all gone trick. Every now and then people are going through some things but that shouldn't have to affect you. Especially not 8 times.

There is another model that just posted to my yahoo group with a similar statement but named the photographer that wanted her to shoot without an escort. I replied to her the same way I'll reply to this post from you. Snip: Thank you Charyse, I'm glad to hear you used your instincts and were not persuaded to meet without an escort. I'd say that has to be one of the biggest red flag even to most of us photographers. I'd also like to say, I'm not comfortable forming a lynching party just yet, but there is another forum where you can post your warning about this type of behavior (see link below). Keep in mind that you as well as the photographer need to feel safe and comfortable when working together and by that, I mean, your escort should not be intimidating or interfere with any of the photographer's production. The photographer should make the escort feel as welcome as the model the entire time you both are at the shoot. The link provided is not in any way affiliated with this group, and I believe you have to register with the site in order to post your remarks. Good luck and please keep me informed on any updates. I used to always judge people thinking everyone was upfront, honest, and was plenty of good, but mistakes happen so you can learn.

I've not had the opportunity to hire a model yet, but I'd think a complete agreement of pay and payment conditions should be on the table before I put my key in the ignition to drive to the shoot.

In my TFP/CD model release I make it a point to put in a time when I will get the CD of edited images to the model (30 days from the e-mail that had thier selections in it). I try to be good about meeting the deadline but I don't alway meet them. I do try to keep in contact with the model if I am late and give them an idea of when to expect them. Also, I almost always give a proof disc to the model of all of the unedited images. Sometimes this is not possible (if we are shooting on location or a tight schedule) to do at the time of the shoot, in that case I either mail the disc to them or create an on-line contact sheet for the model. The point is that the images are the compensation for the model. Images=money But models should understand that most photographer here have other commitments that take away from being able to get images to them quickly. If this were full time for me, I could easily have edited images to a model within a week, but I have a few hours on weekdays and maybe a day (or two if I'm not shooting) on the weekends. This can be especially slow if there is a lot of editing to do. if I have to spend 20 minutes editing an images, you can imagin how long it would take to do 30 let alond 300. I understand the frustration. Ask why it's taking so long and when they expect to have the images done. If they don't answer you then you are within your rights to let everyone else know that the photographer did not honor the agreement. A bad referral is not a good thing for photographers.

I hear ya girlie!! Models are not the only offenders!!!! I'd have to say that BOTH photographers and models are flakey, wishy-washy, late, rude, inconsiderate... ect... but we are all people. They come in all different shapes, sizes, tempers, egos, characters, colors, smells.... So for all those bad experiences you've had, you will have an awesome one somewhere along the way You've got some good Dharma comming your way!!! And until then, instill the fear of God into those you work with. Ask for your money upfront, sign contracts before you shoot speficying what you get out of the deal (or even write your own fair one if they don't have a fair one), bombard them with phone calls (they will eventually send you your CD to get you to leave them alone), or if you are selling your rights to the photos don't sign the contract till you get your money, kick them in the head... I can't give you ALL my secrets on how to instill terror into others... but if all else fails... Send them a nice box of poop! haha I love that one!!! ~The Aydenator

Chelsea, that's your biggest mistake, you assume that people are great/good because they are "well-known"... it is always wise to check for references, and if they refuse to give it, then there obviously is something sketchy about them. A person who has nothing to hide will gladly offer them to you... Remember, modeling is a business, and you have to be smart about it to succeed... so just a suggestion, don't assume, make certain that they are legit, so far I have only one BAD experience with a shooter (if you can call him that) check out my port and you'll knw who I am talking about.... goodluck...
