Great points! It is so true, but the weak ones never make it.

Peabo: I agree with what several people have said saying this was an important rant. There was very good and very important information in there.

Thank you.

It amazes me that many photographers have mentioned the same as Peabo (well said BTW), but have been crucified here on MM for such sentiments.

Well as long as the message is getting through I'm happy.

Peabo,
You speak from experience and tell the truth on this. Awesome analogy on the real world. I just hope everyone who needs to read this, does.
Great job

Haha... that's because we models are touchy and if someone other than a fellow model says it, it comes across as condescending. wink

ETA: I also said that because I'm tired of people sugar coating each other.

That's so true.  Actually the whole list is actually very helpful for new and older (for those who need a reminder) models.  I've already known those rules (except for the ramen. haha but I already love it). Seriously, this business is tough. You gotta keep on going and not let anything trample you down.

I occasionally hear young girls thinking being a model is #1 a kick off to success, fame and fortune #2 a great and easy way to make money on the side (seriously, I don't think any photographer would hire an amateur model if he could hire a more experience model for the same price or a little bit more.)  Just my two cents smile

i will have to somewhat disagree with number 20...you can always tell your agency no...its wise to really consider what they want you to do and all the reasons why and why not...but something people have a hard time remembering..the agency works for the model...if there is a job that you just don't want to do or whatever ...you always have the right to pass...but make sure you're ok with that ...and that the reasons why you are saying no are legit and it won't hurt your career

that being said...most of the time..just do it haha

Awesome rant Peabo. They should make that mandatory reading for all models on this site. Unfortunately you can tell someone something until you are blue in the face and they still won't get it!!! Great look btw!

Out of lots that I like, this one is probably my favorite. And I'd be interested in seeing your film when it comes out. There's been so little about our little world of fashion models/photographers, etc on TV or the big screen that's ever rang even remotely true. (Hell, I should've written one myself...)

Cheers!

I've heard of doing test shoots... but I have never heard of so much TFP ...  It really cheapens the work of the photographer...

OMG, that is so true.  someone did a report on it.  she isn't the first.  celebrities have big buying power.

i can probably youtube it and find a clip of the news report,  it was interesting....

one to add

you do not get to bring an escort when you're a professional model any more than you get to bring an escort when you're a professional bank teller. no one is going to pay for your creepy "manager" to fly with you and they're sure as hell not going to let him hang around and distract you while the rest of the crew waits.

I find the whole "escort" thing a little weird and personally, I find it unprofessional...  Who brings a person with them to an interview?  or when one is working, who brings someone with them to keep them company?  I can understand maybe with a young minor...  but not with an adult... Models that are minors in NYC signed with agencies even do go-sees/interviews on their own....  Why, I ask in all of my ignorance, do people from smaller cities need escorts at an adult age?

cuz the scary interweb has created a mythology of evil boogie people (notice I didn't just say men.lol) and stupid people perpetuate a .001% chance of something happening to them as reality.  People used to laugh at "friend of friend" stories, now they believe them.

now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

Excellent point.  I live in the city right now and my momma is in FL.  I go everywhere all by myself and so do lots of other models that I see!
