Most of the photos in my MM site were shot on location using two Canon 580's and one Canon 550, with Cannon battery packs the only shots not with the flash setup are the two fire light portraits and the lady with red hair black top hat and girl white shirt flipping her hair. Very portable, I have shot commercial photos with this setup, one session in an ice arena and another out side with morning sun. Beats tons of power cords and big mono light setups.

Used a Sunpak 383 Super on a stroboframe. I used tracing paper as a diffuser.

The last large picture in my profile (Deanne) was taken outdoors in the late afternoon with a studio strobe powered by a generator.

Almost everything I do outside is done with strobes. Mostly one light either standard reflector, beauty dish or umbrellas (silver & gold ones)

1st shot standard reflector.
2nd shot silver umbrella.
3rd shot gold umbrella and white balanced to it, makes the background go tungsten.

I think he is masterful at his various lighting techniques. I am almost sure he uses an old fashion video light in some of them too.

Shot around 1pm over very strong sun with 9 profoto strobe heads. All were strategically placed so that 3 heads would cover each model. I used a compliment of umbrellas both white and silver as well as snoots for areas which would normally be shadowed.

Also the options for OCF are much greater now than then as is the necessity to be competent at using it to stay competitive in certain fields.

How is shooting outdoors with strobes any different than shooting anywhere that you have deal with uncontrolled ambient light?

Nope.

Valid thread topics dating back to the first days of MM can be responded to/bumped without any problems (except some excitable forum posters complaining and telling the op this has been posted time and time again do your post  research beforehand), so long as it's still pertinent information.

That's been the 'rule' since the beginning.

Bumping old threads for no reason, to incite drama, or responding to legitimate threads with comments like the one you claim above is not encouraged. The 'not this question again' is specifically listed as a discouraged practice.

Meanwhile, back at the actual thread topic...
