Definitions:
- Definition of a The List photographer: A photographer who has submitted work to and has been approved by The Top DRAWER for inclusion to The List
- Definition of a Newbie model: Any aspiring model who has been a MM member for less than a year with one year or less total modeling experience. She may not be affiliated with any modeling agency as of yet and her portfolio must reflect a "newBie" ambiance, including images, listed experience and contacts. He/she may not show in his/her profile "tours, rates, or anything else that would give him/her the appearance of a working professional model. If in doubt The TOP DRAWER will make final determination.

Since I am moderating this contest, here are my thoughts on the rules - please understand that I lean toward the spirit of the law over the letter of the law.

The matter of models' experience can be sticky - and I always ask Craig if I am on the fence about one. Here is how I see it:

Although the rules say that a model must have been a member of MM for less than a year, there are factors on both sides which could allow someone who's been modeling for more than a year or disallow someone who has been modeling for less than a year.

Someone who has had a profile on MM for more than a year but had never really done anything with it (meaning not enough modeling that one would notice) has been deemed to be eligible as a newbie. I think that this is fair and true to the spirit ...

It is obviously possible for a professional model to have recently joined MM and so that wouldn't be the only factor in that case. The other way - if someone has been on MM for a little less than a year and has been working hard (some of my model friends come to mind) is really no longer a newbie IMO for the purposes of this contest. A year of smart business practices makes a world of difference: in even six or eight months, a sharp newbie will have booked TF* shoots with good photographers ... gaining professional experience as well as improving their portfolios.

This is what it is about but this also moves the newb in question out of the newbie ranks.

In my view this was set up as a fun way to strengthen the model pool by rewarding and encouraging newcomers - the beginners I've fielded have been true wide-eyed beginners. For me, to put them up against someone who has really gotten it about modeling and jumped in there (even if less than a year of experience) is in a different league - sort of like a farm club baseball player going back and playing with his high school chums.

So I lean toward expecting true rank newbies to be nominees in this contest. Again, my example of the quick study above wouldn't even consider entering the NMoW contest - (s)he knows where she was last year and where (s)he is now. (S)he would want the regular Model of the Week contest.

Other factors here - agency representation, paid travel schedules, published images (ranging from tear sheets to pay sites) - will be seen as evidence of professional status.
