I thought it'd be handy to have a list of stock photo websites here.
Some are free some you need to pay, perhaps let us know if they're free or paid when posting links too.

It really is not that simple... you may pay to download a photo, but you are rarely buying the *photo* - you are buying a license to use the photo.

You will need to pay careful attention to the license you buy and what it allows you to do.

There's tons more to look through if you use google and type "stock photo" or any other variation.

I second iStockPhoto.com

If you want real, legal stock photos, you have to pay.  Sorry, end of story.  iStock is cheap, and you can buy just the size you need ($1 for a web sized photo!).

You can't possibly mean that if you find an image through google that you're free to use it without paying the copyright holder, do you?

Gawd, I hope that is not what she means.

OP: while there is nothing wrong with creating a list of stockphoto sites in this thread, I trust that you are gathering it for information only so that folks can go to the sites and properly license the work for the usages that they intend or need.

Oh, and for those suggesting the the "Free" sites are a good deal, consider taking a look at this licensing agreement from one of the free sites.

Really gets you all warm and fuzzy, eh?

This is true.  Sorry everyone.  Forget google and just pay for your images or take them yourself (meaning using a camera rather than pillage).

I usually do shoot my own stock, but this is a pretty good free one.

Yes, I read the license.

That's not a stock photo agency and using a photo like that can result in legal trouble.
