What: The Detroit Erotic Arts Collaborative (DEAC) is a unique closed event dedicated solely to the creation of fine art erotic photography. This includes, but is not limited to, artistic nudes,fetish, lingerie and pinup. The format is of the pre-scheduled trade variety in one hour intervals predetermined by the models and photographers prior to the event.

Who: Photographers and models 18+, from amateur to professional,are welcome, but only those screened for professional integrity will be allowed. This is not to be elitist, but due to the erotic nature of the DEAC, it is to ensure security within a professional and productive event. Makeup artists,hair stylists and fashion designers are also welcome.

When: There will be two days available for shooting...Saturday September 17 from noon to 8pm and Sunday September 18 from noon to 6pm.  You can shoot as little or as much as you desire on either or both days.  Check-in begins at 11am on both days until 5pm.

Where: The location will be in the Leland Hotel in downtown Detroit, MI.  There are numerous rooms, levels, stairs and areas (mostly dilapidated) to shoot in privacy and will be closed to the general public.  The shooting areas also include the City Club nightclub and the spacious marbled grand ballroom.  Photographs and layouts of these areas can be viewed in the Venue Layout section.

Security: Floor monitors will be at hand to ensure the overall security and peace while keeping the public away from your creativity.They will also periodically walk all the areas for to be of any assistance if needed. They will be strict in upholding theDEAC Rules, but are doing so for your safety and the greater good of all participants as a whole.

Fees: The prepay fees for models and MUAs are $20 Sat/$10 Sun/$25 Both.  For photographers, the prepay fees are $45 Sat/$35 Sun/$65 Both.  Returning DEAC photographers in good standing receive a special "thank you"discount rate of $30 Sat/$20 Sun/$40 Both, if prepaid.   One working assistant is allowed to accompany and assist you for $5 prepaid each day.  Any fees not prepaid will be an additional $5 for each day at the door.  To prepay, you must sign up first.

Hotel Rooms: Unfortunately there are no more rooms available at the Leland as they are switching over to apartment living.  We are currently seeking room discounts elsewhere and will send a notice in email to all once we have secured one.

Workshops: There will be 5 workshop available at DEAC 9 covering topics from marketing to portfolio reviews to releases/usage rights and shooting on a budget.  These workshops are open to the general public on a first-come basis. View the Updates in the next post below for further details and how to register.

Shooting Area Reservations: Photographers who pre-register can reserve certain areas in non-consecutive one hour blocks prior to their shoot.  The area reservation sheet can be found here.

PROCEDURES: All signups are handled from within the members-only DEAC website.  To participate at this event, you must  register a profile on the DEAC site.  While there, you can also post your past DEAC images in the galleries and freely use the forums.  Nudity is fully allowed in your profiles, avatars and forums.

You may now start reviewing and contacting any person on the participation list that you are interested in working with.  Simply ask "do you have any openings at DEAC?" or something similar.  If a person you wish to work with is not on this list, feel free to send them a link here to see if they are interested in participating. 

Once you start coordinating schedules, add their name to your list.  New members are added daily so check back to the list often to see who is now available.  You can also periodically (that means every couple days, not hourly) post your open dates in the forum.

Remember, you are responsible for setting up your own schedules.

One week prior to the DEAC, you will be emailed a link to the official DEAC Information Packet which will include further instructions, forms, maps and other items to help make your experience as productive and enjoyable as possible. 

Cancellations: If you are listed as participating and cannot make it for any reason, please be courteous and contact anyone you have scheduled with as soon as possible.  Your attendance is important to them and advance notice will help them fill their empty slots quick.  Simply not showing up without warning will result in banishment of all future DEAC events and your name will be shared with other group shoot coordinators!  In the case you receive a cancellation notice, there will be an board where photographers and models can list their open time slots to find one another and continue creating art.  Please note that pre-paid refunds are given only upon request to the prepay website and up to 2 days before the event.

“Marketing Your Erotica”

The “Marketing Your Erotica” Workshop is geared towards artists who are looking for more opportunities to show and sell their erotic works. This two hour presentation is not intended as a technical tutorial for any medium of art; instead the workshop will be chockfull of information and tips on these topics:

Composing Your Best Portfolio
Erotic Art Websites and Blogs
Erotic Art Galleries, Festivals and Exhibits
Submitting Your Work to Publishers
Selling Your Work to Collectors and Investors

Participants should be prepared for a flurry of helpful information and resources in getting their feet planted in the field of erotica, with a brief Q & A session to follow the presentation.

“Portfolio Review” (Space is Limited to 6 people)

Don’t know what to submit to curators in order to get exhibited? Have you always dreamed about getting published? What is it that people are really looking for?

Here is your chance to have your portfolio reviewed by one of the leading movers and shakers in contemporary erotica – someone who has been in three dozen erotic art exhibits in five years and published internationally several times. Participants are encouraged to bring 30 to 50 of their favourite photographs (4” x 6” or larger, please) to be reviewed and critiqued personally and privately by Lisolette Gilcrest, with tips on how to present portfolios to different audiences. Additionally, there will be products available at the workshop to help build your portfolio.

“Model Releases and Usage Rights”

Do you need your models to sign a release? Want to be able to sell your images? What exactly is the difference between a model release and usage rights?

The “Model Releases and Usage Rights” conversation is geared towards both photographers and models. This one-hour dialogue will be facilitated by Lisolette to show you some of the hard lessons learned by artists and to share some of the "best practices" in the field today. (Please note that Lisolette is not an attorney and that the information shared in this workshop is not intended as legal advice.)

--------------- REFERRAL REWARD PROGRAM -----------------

After many requests, we have decided to start a referral reward program to help DEAC members save on their admission fees.  If a new model registers with you as their referral and attends the currently open DEAC event, you get $5 towards your fee...and its accumulative.  So bring in 5 models and you can get $25 off!  Any accumulation over your normal DEAC fees will be credited towards your next DEAC event.

Here are the rules and restrictions:

1) The new member must be a model.  Why, because we can never have too many of them. 

2) The new member must be new to DEAC and not an existing or banned DEAC member.

3) The new member must sign up to participate in the currently opened DEAC event.

Here is how you get paid:

- If the new model prepays, you get your reward credited towards the current or the next event you attend.

- If the new model pays at the door, you will be credited towards the next event you attend.

- If you have prepaid, we will give you cash at the door if the model prepays or credit your next event if the model pays at the door.

NOTE: Although the referral program only regards new registered models, anyone (models, MUAs and photographers) can participate in the rewards program.  Just make sure you tell them to add your DEAC member name in the referral area.
