Added the rant with rant in the title that's right under this thread.

People just don't like rants directed at the general MM membership.

Sometimes people say things in a authoritative manner.  They might not be attacking you, but brushing up their ego because they think they are so much better than you.

If someone critiqued you in that post you made in "Retouchers" then you should bring it up to the attention of the moderators ... because that is against the rules.  Critiques are done where that section is ... and I did post in there asking for critiques once!  I got my ass chewed on!  I already am harder on myself than anyone else, but everyone has an opinion.  I do not claim, nor have I ever claimed to be a great photographer.  I am here for enjoyment and networking.

So I would never tell anyone what program to use, what camera, etc .... because this is art, not rocket science.  What I do is perfect for myself, but may not be for anyone else.  It takes less energy to be nice than it does to be mean.  That is all.

Who likes being passive aggressively bitched at?
That's like walking into a room where your roommates are sitting and launching into a long rant about how shitty it is to have roommates, then expecting them to be agreeable about it.

This is true, the point is, this thread was doomed from the beginning. Didn't matter who posted it, just the tone and the subject matter was the death of it.

Don't be discouraged from asking questions.  Just learn to ignore the stuff that's not helpful.  You did get some helpful answers in that thread before it turned in a different direction.

Trust me ... I've had roommates from hell!  One couple moved me into their house into a room before the former roommates body was found.  I didn't know he was missing, and his body was found 6 months later deep in the woods.  I moved out in the middle of the night before they could stage an "apparent suicide" of me.  Trust me, I can write a novel that would make a good movie just on that one "roommate" experience.  Many more true stories to tell about bad roommates ... until I met some great roommates.  So I also have plenty of happy stories to tell.

And if it's not words or music that gets me rolling, then I've got 30 years of pictures of mostly concerts and models to go through.  Images and words give me inspiration.

You don't have to delete your first post.  I had quoted you, and so have others.  You do not have to apologize either.  No where have you said that everyone on Modelmayhem is attacking you.  You even mentioned that there are nice people on here too.  So it's not like you came on here and said "All the members of MM suck!" or some such nonsense.  I have found that given time, it gets better on here.

I do understand what you mean.  However, I have to agree and disagree with you on some things ... the OP did not directly state that "all" people were attacking her.  Ranting doesn't do a hell of a lot of good for anyone either.

posted something and got bitten... don't like that? simple - ignore it and continue on. Say what you want to say. People are going to judge you and react to you. Don't want this? maybe rant to people in real life about your issues (whatever it was) because they're more likely to be intimidated or worried about your feelings or that they might sound like an ass hole - online... not so much smile

The post was an obvious rant. That is all it was. I am sorry for getting people involved. I will not rant again. When someone says something I don't like I will ignore it.

So it's a rant about the last rant not going well?

"10 ... Open Source and Free Alternatives to Photoshop"  http://sixrevisions.com/graphics-design … photoshop/

Couple things I've learned in my time:

1)  Sharing your art takes courage.  You need to be ready to except criticism.

2)  Photography/modeling for profit is extremely competitive.  You need to be better than most to make a buck.

3)  People can be callous when communicating across the internet.  Don't take it personally.

Your mileage may vary.

:eyeroll: you have got to be kidding me. Not everyone is attacking you on here, people on MM don't like rants, you got some very good advice I would take it. And you need to thicken your skin up a bit more, this industry will eat you up and spit you out. If you don't have money, it's simple, don't model. I model as a hobby and I have spent a shit ton of money on clothes, makeup, gas, etc. if you don't have the funds, don't do it.

People don't read all responses and you commenting on it will just keep bumping back to the top where people will continue to not read everything and comment.

But that's not the point... the photos you have displayed do not reflect skills of an actual photographer... and no, you can not tell that those are not self taken.

However, your reaction shows that you are too sensitive to criticism... and maybe that's the way how the arguments are ending up in the Retoucher's forum?!

You're such and F'ing liar! That's a photo of a ghost in the middle of Hurricane Sandy!

Clear out space in your house, paint the walls matte white- invite photographers to shoot on your turf.  Lounge around in your jammie-jams and then roll out of bed and shoot.  Sweet.

Whatever it takes.  I had a networking dinner for models last night.  I found out it would take me four buses to get there, and it'd take an hour and a half.  Only an hour walk.

I walked.

Get shit done and stop making excuses.  Do, or do not.

You're a damn trooper! I saw the posting for the dinner, then saw where it was, and said "Hellsssssss no!".
