Sorry about butting in BUT I have to express something if I may ...
I have read both threads in question and frankly... I agree with some of the things pointed out to the OP ...
Story:
I was at a gathering a few days ago and I was showing some images from my portfolio (on my iPAD which does not go too far from my side after all I am a working professional photographer and I have to have a platform for showing my work) another person in the group said "oh wow I is a professional photographer also" She looked at some of my images and said they are mostly "STUDIO" and went on to say "I cant figure out that lighting stuff. My pictures are all outside where I dont have to worry about lighting" . Fair enough I thought ... do you have anything you can show me ... She handed me her cell phone that was full of pictures with bad lighting, poles out of the head ... a couple of shots that failed porn check ... just generally bad "snapshots" ... I kept my comments to myself and just said very nice ... she then asked me what camera I used ... Well I just got a D4 and I backup with a D700 ... all nikon glass. She told me that she has a nikon also. She uses a S9400 ("its the top of the line") for all her pictures... It that point I found a way to move to a different subject with a different group of people.
This "photographer" like the OP seems to have a very distorted opinion of their skills and their perception of quality. They believe that they can compete in the big game because their work is "cute" and their family and friends like it. They dont see the difference between their meager hobbyist attempts and what is considered pro work . They consider things like lighting or photoshop too complicated so they blow it off but still think they can deliver a viable commercial product. Sorry I can give my kid an aspirin when he has a headache but heart surgery is just too complicated for me so I dont try pass myself off as a surgeon.
Enjoy you hobby, ask for tips. Most will help. But, please do not pass your self off as a pro or even aspiring pro if you cannot wield the tools of the trade. This is true in photography retouching or modeling
