It shows your form well. Would make for a much stronger avatar. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31096443 While a model needs a headshot, this one has poor composition, lighting and the unskilled photographer used the wrong lens for a portrait. Overall you have a good face and form. You have a good look and a playfulness comes through in some of your images. However what is holding you back is the quality of your images. I would suggest working with more skilled photographers that can bring out your potential. Much success, Michael

Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29939634 This has the best lighting and composition in your portfolio. Worst: Your top row with the different glasses. The lighting, composition and poses are not well done. They drag down the rest of your portfolio and suggest that your stronger work may have been taken during courses. Overall you appear to be depending on experienced models to strike good poses instead of directing the poses to strike a good composition. Much success, Michael Thanks Michael. Good points. No courses were taken, just experimenting in a new territory

The background detracts from you and the lighting is not dramatic enough, but the image shows you off well. Would make a stronger avatar, because it shows your face, hair and figure well. Your current choice is too cliche and doesn't show your abilities well. https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31849273 Also one of your stronger shots. As is this one: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31849271 Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32010860 Poor lighting, composition and pose. Your arms look very awkward in this position. The background does not contribute positively to the image. The photo is just there and doesn't show off your modeling potential. Close 2nd worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31961814 The background, pose, lighting and composition lack finish. Does not show you as a high end model. Overall you've got a great look with an excellent form and an elegant face. You are missing an exceptional frontal head shot. You seem comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera. What is holding you back is the quality of your photos. Your portfolio would benefit from some really strong impact shots with great makeup and hair, shot by skilled photographers who could show off your assets. Much success, Michael

iYi images wrote: What about me? The range of your work goes from very finished as though they were done in a class, such as: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27968323 to unfinished, which seem to have been shot in your studio, such as your current avatar: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30894896 and the top two rows of your portfolio. The sense of posing, composition and light in your studio work needs to have a lot more finish to match what again seems like it may have been shot in a class: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/27968362 I would suggest you do a lot of culling of your portfolio. Your composition would improve if you did not crop your work so tight. I consider that photographers should be honest with the viewer and state what was done in a class where lighting, composition and posing are highly scripted by skilled photographers, because otherwise the client who hires you will expect that you will deliver that same quality. Overall you have excellent models, but the shots done with the coarser backgrounds need more knowledge about lighting, composition and posing. Much success, Michael

Would make for a much stronger avatar than your current choice. I would suggest culling your first five images, because they take from your port. While it significantly reduces your portfolio, it also makes it much stronger, highlighting your potential as a llama. Fewer stronger images will bring you more attention than dragging yourself down with unskilled images. Overall it is a shame that these two photos: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/30694427 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32105231 were done by such an unskilled photographer, when the elaborate hair design was done by such an artistic stylist. You need to pick more skilled photographers. It is evident to me that you could show as a very qualified llama if you had worked with better photographers. Much success, Michael

Your best and these two photos have finish and look like they may have been done in a class: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/20168496 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/28792299 Your other photos are not of the same level. The nude is the most difficult subject to do well, because the model should not just be there. You need extensive study on what makes a good black and white. Basically a good black and white is totally dependent on tonal scale. Your b&w lack the scale and remind me of images done on film where the artist lacked b&w printing skills. You need to study tonal scale of b&w, which can be extremely powerful. Here is an example from my own work that shows a rich tonal scale. The image was done with a large format view camera on 4x5 b&w film. Much success, Michael

This image: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32013017 Would make for a stronger avatar than your current choice. Needs to go: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31651315 This image needs to be dropped. It is far too cliche and doesn't add anything to your portfolio. Also drop one of the duplicated photo, as the two just compete with each other. The differences between the two are too insignificant. Your other images are all of the same quality and don't really show you well. Seek out more skilled photographers to build a stronger portfolio. You have potential with long hair and a good form. Just keep seeking photographers with more skills. Much success, Michael

Jamie Saveal wrote: Me please Your portfolio runs a wide gamut from very finished images of publication quality to very basic, making it appear as if multiple photographers did the work instead of an individual. There is no consistency in lighting, pose and composition. A portfolio needs consistency to create a sense of identity. Showing a poor self-portrait does not enhance your portfolio. Yes, people like to know with whom they are working. But they also judge you by the quality of this photo. Much success, Michael

Models need to be more selective in choosing with what photographers they work, so that they can build a portfolio worth showing. To help improve your images study more about posing. Figure out what flatters your form and keep practicing. Much success, Michael

I am feeling a bit masochistic today, give me a shot? I'd like to see what you think is my best and worst? I think I already know which will be classified as the worst, but I would love to see what you think is my best?

Well, as I enjoy how diverse your port is, and how much fun your models seem to be having, I thought I'd throw myself out there and see where I stack up.

myfotographer wrote: Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback. Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/386468 Best lighting, composition and pose in your portfolio. Would make for a stronger avatar, especially if cropped from just above the head to just below the hand on the leg. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/8621124 The composition is too tight, the face is blown out and over reworked, the tonal scale of the lighting is too flat a range. The pose of the model and the snake do not relate; I see no connection other than that they are both there. In all of your albums the lighting, composition and pose are all over the place. There is no consistency in the level of the work. It ranges from images done very professionally, typical of images done in a class, to very basic. You need to develop more knowledge about lighting, composition and posing the model. Photographers should not be relying on the model to execute the pose. The model is not looking inside the camera when the photographer pushes the button on the camera, creating the image. Overall I would suggest culling a lot of your photos to make a stronger portfolio. Much success, Michael

Dena Hogue wrote: I'm a total beginner, but please feel free to judge my pics. Hope you're having a great Easter holiday. ^_^ There is no sense in judging best or worst, because all of the images are about the same level. This is due to the quality of photographers with whom you have worked. You have a good face and form, but you are not being directed in your poses and the photographers with whom you are working have no artistic vision. They have no idea about composition, lighting or posing. They are expecting you to do something wonderful, while they wait and push the button. If you continue to work with photographers of this level, your port will remain the same. You have a good look. But don't give a full smile, because it does not bring out the best assets of your face. This would make for a much stronger avatar than your current choice, which is poorly done and cliche: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32161915 It's not how many times you shoot. It is how you shoot with an experienced, artistic photographer. Based on the images I am seeing, your portfolio shows you are developing bad habits as a model. I would suggest seeking to work with more skilled photographers who can create higher quality images. I wish you much success, Michael

Emily Paige Johnson wrote: Yes, please and thank you. Best: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32073362 This is your strongest shot due to good lighting, composition and pose. Makes for a strong headshot and would be your best avatar choice. Worst: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/29719487 This headshot should be dropped from your portfolio. It has no redeeming value because of poor lighting, composition and expression. These two shots: https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31499746 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31498791 While the concept is interesting, the lighting, composition and posing were poorly executed. They also lack engaging expressions. The first three shots in your port are the strongest, because of lighting, composition and pose. The rest of your portfolio show that you have a good face and form, but are bland. They look like Walmart studio shots and are far below the level of your best shot. Keep striving to work with better photographers. You have an excellent look and form. Much success, Michael
