So I'm curious; there's another thread going on about how some horrible model (sarcasm) didn't respond to a photographer's msg...I'm wagering that either the old "No response is a response" is going on, OR...that the model might have forgotten to answer due to a ton of msgs in their inbox.  I remember a while back I was talking to a model from here, and she said that she received upwards of 50 new messages a day yikes

So just to pique my curiosity:  Models, how many messages on average do you get a day, and a week?  I'm thinking that many photographers in certain markets might not realize how many PM's models are getting inundated with on a regular basis, so maybe if we can get a general idea of how many a model gets, then maybe people will realize "Gee, she gets 200 messages a week, I can see why she might have forgotten to respond to me." and stop taking things so personal.

When I traveled I often had several months worth of work I was trying to book both on the road and in my local markets, and when people send you messages where the subject is just "hi!" You don't know how important it is. I'd open all of my mail but it was put on a priority list, after trying to schedule 5 or 6 people my brain needed a break and I'd step away from the computer/mm/my inbox. Sometimes people just fell through the cracks because they weren't high priority. People who were just saying hi or "maybe we could shoot next summer" compared to "I want to book you next week" for example.

I don't know what the numbers of messages I was getting was,  but it was enough that sometimes people got forgotten. Some people are fantastic at scheduling and organizing, some people make mistakes regardless of how big or small their mail load is. -shrug-  I'd say if I was going to a decent market at the right time and posted all the necessary announcements and notices, I could get anywhere between 5-20/day

Every couple of months I went through all my folders and double checked messages/deleted stuff I didnt need, if I caught someone I'd forgotten and I still wanted to work with them/had a chance to if they were local I'd follow up and explain what happened.

Edit: are you asking about messages total or NEW messages? There are people who want to just fucking chat with you here, if I actually entertained any of those I could be getting a handful of new important messages plus carrying conversations with another handful of people, plus thanking everyone for their "nice look!" And "I like what you said in the forum!" And "thanks for accepting my friend request" (since y'know, not answering messages is rude, no matter how pointless the message is wink. )

I get maybe 3-5 messages a day...during a good week. Most times I go without ANY messages at all.

Most are guys asking me to do porn but eh

Sometimes I do forget to respond because I check my messages on my phone when I'm usually in the car. I try to make a mental note to respond but sometimes I forget when I get back to my laptop.

Depends. Sometimes I don't log in for a few days or a week and get a backlog of 20-30 messages. When I don't answer castings, have a travel notice up, or update my portfolio I don't really get many messages.

I remember glancing at one traveling model's inbox and there were hundreds of unread messages O.O

When I started modeling I received 200+ messages in 24 hours.

Over time that tempered down to 25+ a day when I posted travel notices.

Some models who worked more popular genres receive 100+ messages a DAY.

These days as a photographer/studio owner I regularly receive 3-10 messages/calls/emails/texts/meetings a day.
Some are new jobs, others are old jobs, some are networking, some are thank yous...
All in different formats on different web sites.

I try to keep communication streamlined, but it can slide sideways fast.

When I first joined MM in 2007 (transplant from OMP), I didn't get a lot of response or messages. As I began to post on the message boards, I started getting maybe 5 per week, and when I was travelling and shooting a lot, I'd probably get around 20 per week. These days, I go weeks without any new messages, sometimes nearly a month. I don't shoot much anymore though, so I no longer network proactively, or try to get people to look at my page.

I'd say 3-5 messages per day on MM and 3-5 per day on Facebook for shoot-related things and maybe 3-5 per day through email for new shoot related inquests. Regardless of whether it more of less, I always take the time to respond to everything unless the message is blatantly ridiculous.

My 'This is not a knocking shop please do not send lewd manages' got rid of most of them.
So now it's about forty a week in all re modelling between here and FB. Much of it just chatter about forum issues. Probably 6 a week about actual jobs. When I am applying for castings that can treble.
I don't bother logging in to the UK site I am on after my first 70 or so messages in the first couple of days  were from glamour gwcs some pretty damm lewd, without one offer of paid work so haven't been back since.

Between here, facebook and my gmail... I get average of 40 a day. Sometimes more sometimes less depending on if I'm traveling or not.

Interesting, so it's pretty much what I thought:

During downtime, or when not really actively casting or advertising that you're shooting just a handful

When posting castings/travel/etc then that number jumps up fairly high

And even during slow-ish weeks (ie just a couple a day) the number can add up to a dozen or two in a week easily, so if you don't check regularly it'd be easy to get backlogged...

The most interesting is there is a thread in the photographers forum inspired by this and it seems most photographers get one or two a day if they're lucky.  So perhaps this would also have something to do with their perception that "no one can be that busy to respond to my messages..."

It all depends... some models correspond via other methods such as Craigslist, FB, Tumblr, or their personal websites along with MM. Some models, especially traveling ones find it hard to stop and respond because they book , or try to book, back to back gigs.

Probably about 4-7 a day between both of my accounts. Sometimes more if I post a casting.

Once a month I like to go through and delete things that have concluded or fallen through. I'll generally do follow ups to things that are in 'pre-production' for projects that are set to happen during the following month or so.

I'm very good about answering every post I get, which the exception of the occasional...well creepy post. So a good 99.9% of what comes in. I just find it rude when people read something but don't reply, so I don't like to leave people hanging.

When working with traveling models, I often provide transportation, so I get to spend a lot of non-shooting time with them. I think it's partly a generational thing and partly a necessity of the lifestyle, but I find the girls have their face in the phone non-stop. 200 messages a day sounds really light to me.

In this day and age, I wouldn't sweat not hearing from a model depending on the context. If we're a week or two out from a shoot, days can go by, no problem. The day before or day of a shoot, I'd kinda expect a response fairly soon. "Hey, I'm double-parked and waiting outside!".

But the opposite isn't much better. I tend to zone out and go incommunicado when I'm shooting or editing -- forgetting to check my phone for hours on end. "Sorry, I missed your text. Damn! You had a baby?". LOL.

Been pretty steady at about 10 or so a day lately. I do respond to absolutely everything, but when I get offers to do tf, which I don't do right now, I tell them I'm not doing tf at this time and will let them know when I am interested in trade again...and honestly I usually forget to get back to a lot of these people because I get busy. I feel bad but paid work has to be priority right now hmm

Like most have already said, it really depends on the day smile

Sometimes I'll get 3 to 4. Other times I get upwards of 10. It sometimes depends on how active I'm being on MM, or if I've contacted photographers, etc.

But I make my best effort to respond to every message I get, unless the person is being creepy.

3 to 5 per day but since I have a FT job, I can't always get to all of them in a timely manner..which then accumulates-however I try my best to get back to everyone unless it's a stupid message like "ur hot" or "how u doin" (wtf?) which brings nothing "to the table" and to the industry I'm in.

Well, I'm still a novice in modeling, so I would say I only get a few a month from different photographers! :'( Of course, the most recent two photographers who have messaged me interested have not replied back, so I would like to know how it is the other way around too. Lol

When I was on the road, 10-15 was pretty normal [because I was planning shoots at least a month in advance].
Now that I'm not traveling as much, maybe 4 or 5.

I wake up to about 20-30 messages a day.
I'm always on MM posting announcements, commenting on others photos, etc.
I'm pretty active so that's probably why.

If I am off MM for a few days I login to 50+ messages.
Some are from models, some from photographers, some from retouchers.
