Found out today that my application to take over my best friend's lease on his log cabin in western NC, after he moves out at the beginning of August, came through. Not only that, I have such an awesome bestie, he's going to work out a payment arrangement with me, so I can pay him off in pieces for the deposit, so I will have more to invest in the move, and the whole process of moving 900 miles will be much more affordable to me. The past two years, nothing I've wanted to work out has worked out. This has come together absolutely flawlessly. Like, mindblowing. I can't believe I actually got something to WORK for once. Between those two things, I'm absolutely elated. THEN, I just sent out some emails, just testing the waters, inquiring about gigs for August, once I get moved back to the Southeast. Even THAT has been outrageously successful. So, here's some photos of where I will be headed to this time next month. View off what will be my front deck: The landscape I get to move back to, which I've missed desperately:

I have two cats of my very own. They won't enjoy the trip down, but that's really just too bad. I have a love-seat I found beside the road in March of 2013.

Never been west of Charlotte, but I've heard that the Great Smoky Mts., and regions thereabouts, are something to experience. Now, I see that they are. Have a great trip and some great living in your new home.

You can start getting her used to carrier. Just let it stand open in the house. Grendel may start using it as a hangout. Catnip, treats, you know the drill. Then when travel time comes around it won't be so scary any more. I've also heard good things about the calming collar with momma pheromones... but it's a stretch.

I'll be living 5 minutes from one of the best "Beer Cities" in the US: http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/06/travel/usa-beer-towns/ One of the best in the world, according to some people: http://www.mytravelflavor.com/top-10-be … the-world/ Back when I lived there, I actually had a far more active cultural/social life than I ever had in Boston. There's a lot of arts scene stuff there, and it's a lot more accessible. You can't go do shit around here, unless you have at least $100 to throw at it, $30 of which will go directly toward parking.

I wanna go there and act like I belong, see if anybody guesses I am only an Honorary Okie and not a genuine salt of the earth type. I bet everybody is really nice, Koryn is always really nice. My cat says hi everyone. I'm going to go watch a documentary on Lewis and Clark, and drink cheap whiskey with ice in it.

Down in Louisiana Where the alligators grow so mean Lived a girl that I swear to the world Made the alligators look tame Polk salad Annie 'Gators got your granny Everybody said it was a shame For the mama was working on the chain-gang What a mean, vicious woman Everyday before suppertime She'd go down by the truck patch And pick her a mess of Polk salad And carry it home in a tote sack ..."

Looks great! My cat is beside me & says Hi (or pet me). We had possums in our back yard in California when I was a kid. They're everywhere.

I am planning on having a log cabin, or regular cabin in the Catskills, with a barn that will be a multi-purpose thingy, e.g. practicing martial arts, meditation, maybe photoshoots and a place where I can paint! You are way ahead of me! Congratulations!!!

Peppermint is very calming to cats. I don't know how much or what kind to use except I read that the oil is good for a bath for them. My cat doesn't meow normally but in a carrier he does nonstop. He's never been on a trip except to/from the shelter and a vet. There are no possum in the U.S., it's opposum here.

Mostly, it's"home" to me because it's where my two best friends are, and my other very close buddy is moving back this month, after six years in Portland, Oregon. Boston has been good to me, because it's a place where if you work hard, you can actually do something with yourself. But, it's a "hard" culture too, and the people are as prickly as the barnacles that grow on the ocean rocks. Asheville is basically the exact opposite; the local culture is hippy-dippy and friendly, and all about peace, love and the pursuit of personal happiness. Unlike Boston, there are vegan restaurants on every block, and cheap music venues, and stuff to do for people who are perpetually broke. I'm glad I moved up here, but it gets lonely, and I have not even remotely come close to making the same friendships up here that I did there. The longer I've stayed up here, the more appealing the "never grow up" mentality of my hometown has become.

The only thing that is going to drive me nuts is that, when I go back down there, I get irritated because people are so leisurely about everything. I wasn't particularly leisurely when I lived there, and I'm not even remotely that way now. I tend to honor the gospel of gettin' shit done, and southern folks are notorious for dragging their feet.
