SD memory cards
Does anyone know where to buy SD memory cards in bulk? 32 megabytes is enough in terms of size but I'm going to need a LOT of them ... we're talking 3-400 or so and maybe more. I don't want to pay $20 for them.I really don't want to pay $5 for them, either. We're talking about each here. I know I can't get 400 memory cards for $4 and have them be any good. Any ideas? Mar 07 15 11:20 pm Link Actually 3 or 4 hundred pieces is not considered a lot in the memory business. Even fully packaged it's still one box that you can balance on one hand. You barely get any wholesale price breaks until you go over 1000 pcs. Get quotes from a couple of "local" electronic / memory chip wholesalers. One of my friends sells and services digital display signs and billboards. The information those signs and billboards display is saved to a usb drive, so changing out the display is as simple as going to the location, opening a panel and swapping a usb drive. He goes thru hundreds of usb drives each month, because usually the client wants to save the old display drive for use again at a later date. He buys his usb drives locally at Fry's. For your volume, they should be happy to tell you what they can do. I would also call Transcend. I've had good luck with their products and guarantees, and they may not be as bound by distribution agreements as SanDisk. For 32GB, maybe they have older stock to sell at a liquidation price that is not in their currently promoted line. Obviously not brand name stuff though, but with some research you may find a certain capacity is cheap just because many are being made at the moment. Edit: Actually some kingston and toshiba 4GB ones are under $5. Some selections even have bulk pricing, I would check up to 4GB in size, or whichever size a retailer has the most selection of. Mar 08 15 04:07 pm Link It would appear that the economies of scale don't work so well at the lower end of the capacity of SD cards. There must be a lower limit on the cost to make a card. I noticed that those 100 32MB cards are far more expensive than a single 4GB card (the closest capacity to 3.2GB). I know officeworks here in Australia you can buy a bulk lot of SD cards and say have a name put on the cards or such ... Pricing is the thing though.
