*sigh*  Ah, another major loss and one that hits me particularly hard. sad

Yep, I will fully cop to the fact that The Avengers was one of the very first pop culture artifacts that had a defining effect on my developing psyche, presenting me with three of the coolest characters ever to slink, snark, and smirk their way across a TV screen (Dr. Cathy Gale, Mr. John Steed, and Mrs. Emma Peel).

It was one of my favorite shows while living in Canada in the mid-60s, along with Thunderbirds, The Monkees... and Magistrate's Court, which puzzled my Mom to no end.

Thank you, Patrick, and may ye rest in peace.

Well, at least we can enjoy his contributions in reruns.  It's running on a local station but the later ones after Diana Riggs left the show.  One of the better memories of my earlier years.  Very enjoyable and at times, very smart.

and let's not forget one of his more memorable performances on the big screen, as sir denis eton-hogg, in 'this is spinal tap'. great stuff.

I was just looking up this story.  Slightly OT, but it had completely went over my head that "Ms. Peel,"  Diana Rigg, has a recurring role on Game of Thrones.

RIP Patrick

They never overtly said it, but I'm convinced that Steed was banging Emma.

Loved the show. Had such a crush on Diana Rigg.

Patrick Macnee lived a long life and entertained millions of people. A good legacy, by any standard.

Ya think?

The sexual tension and their quirky, free-spirited, playful, affectionate, puppy-dog-like relationship was probably 85% of the selling power of that show.

Maybe 95%?

The character name Emma Peel was derived by show writers from "man appeal."

Man Appeal>Samantha Peel>Mantha Peel>M. Appeal> ... Emma Peel
