normally, i'm not a tin foil hat type; but it seems every time that gas prices plummet (nationwide) all of the southern ca refineries suddenly are beset with "maintenance" issues, or "fire" issues, or likewise.

me--being the skeptic--can pretty much figure out what's going on here. i call bs. gas has gone up here (at my normal place of purchase) about 50 cents a gallon, in the last two weeks, while it has fallen at about that same rate, nationally.

When it comes to Crude Oil, I am a skeptic.

I still think the whole thing is being driven by governments and the oil companies in an effort to keep global economies from going into the toilet.  Yep, it's hurt the oil export country's as well.  Russia, Saudi, and others, including the US in those states that depend on exporting at higher prices.

10 years of 0 interest rates will have it's consequences.

I'm of the opinion we're entering into a "global" recession where no one will be immune.

Back to my moms basement I go.

Corner gas station here in Houston yesterday 1/1/16: $2.69/gal. Granted it's in a rather pricey neighborhood, but still...

I paid $1.56 at Walmart in a small town an hour or so south of Houston that morning. That's a difference of $1.03/gal.!

Most of the stations, even in Houston itself, are well under $2.00/gal. at this point. Yet there are still people buying gas at the corner station. Oh, well.

I read it is the number one tourist destination for those living in Flint. Probably more so now that gas is cheap.

There are a few places in the U.S. which seem like they're located in a different country - California, Arizona, Texas, and New Jersey.

A tourist destination

Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford museum.  California people don't seem to know much about the rest of the country.
They just built a couple more large hotels here.  There are also tours of the Ford factory.

gotta feed the monkey, dude.

It's not your imagination. Watch how the average price in California and the rest of the country track each other until mid-December before the holiday travel and then they jump in southern California. Where we normally pay about 65¢ more than the US average we're currently paying about $1.05 more. Ridiculous.

Back in February when crude oil was $12/b higher than it is today I was paying about 60¢ per gallon LESS than I am right now. You don't have to be a math genius to figure out that we're getting screwed.

When gas prices caught everyone off guard and started to plummet, our great politicians and government leaders of California rushed in with plans to jack up gas taxes and other related taxes to offset the price drop and harvest more "revenue," in their oh-so-clever ways and most infinite wisdom.

Yesterday, gas at Costco Santee was $2.70/gal. All the other cheap places start at around $3/gal and go up from there.
