Why do many photographers on here do not work with anyone under 18? There are more models out there that are under 18 why is that?

The style that they aim for may not be appropriate for minors. Parents can cause many problems.

Problably because on the online MM world most of the content is 18 plus.

Liability issues. Someone under the age of 18 cannot sign a legally binding contract, and usually require an escort, which some photographers don't allow. It's illegal to shoot minors in sexual ways, and lots of photographers enjoy doing nude/lingerie/glamour photography.

Also, maturity issues.

This flat out.

Now Occasionally I have and will work with a minor...but to me it is so frustrating because more often than not the parents are either:

(a) divorced and therefore more interested in pissing each other off instead of focusing on their child (model)

OR

(b) one parent is (usually) in a state of dis approval on some level, therefore, causing more issues at hand

OR

(c) one parent is over-bearing to the point of stressing out the model, therefore causing issues.

OR

(d) neither parent gives a shit about their child (model), therefore the child/model tries to push the boundaries with me by asking to do "mature" poses which I will not allow because I am too freaking cute to be someone's bitch in prison lol

If you're doing fashion/beauty etc work only, it shouldn't be too hard to find a photographer. Just make sure you act mature and responsible, and have the permission of your parent(s) before shooting. Have your parents meet with the photographer to clear up any issues.

You must have some cranky parents in the Keys.. Personally I've had only 1 parent issue and I shoot a great deal of under 18..

Might be for personal reason as such young people under 18 might not fit the concept they want.

I work with models under 18.

I too have been shoot minors for a while now. I just have 3 rules for shooting anyone under NJ's legal age.
1. One of the parents is always present.
2. Release is always signed
3. I have an assistant present at all times.
I keep the parent and an assistant to just avoid the potential of a he said she said problem

3 of the models in my Portfolio are 17.  On the other hand, I would rather shoot someone who is 18 or older.

Sometimes it has more to do with the photographer than the model.  It is in my case.  I do not do sexual or suggestive imagery, but since I am a single gay man, it is often automatically assumed that I do.

I avoid under 18 shoots simply because it is far too easy for overanxious, nervous, and bigoted mothers to point the condemning finger and claim anything they choose to see as suggestive or obscene is just that.

I once inquired on Facebook of a model, well over 21, if a relative of his was his brother.  He responded that it was his cousin.  Within one day, I received a volatile letter from the cousin's mother, threatening to have me jailed for "soliciting a minor" as she put it.  A kid I never even spoke to or communicated with at all.  I can only imagine what hell would have befallen me if the kid was also a model and asked me to photograph him.  He was 17.

So for my own safety, I do not photograph minors, under any circumstances.

THIS. THIS is why I wont work with anyone under eighteen. Yes, I do erotic and nudes, yes, I do shoots that all would agree are adult in nature. I also do shoots that aren't, and I STILL wont work with an under eighteen model because of the problems it could cause, and it doesn't matter if your gay or straight or pink with purple polka dots- it can still happen.
Personally, I would much rather avoid this, although I will still do, say, a family shoot if its in exchange for an adult models time, and only if that's what he/she/hir/ze wants.

Many prefer the (relative) safety of working w/ someone over 18 because of the signing the release thing.

I've been contacted several times my minors.  The minute I tell them a parent will have to be involved and the parent will need to sign a release I never hear from them again.

Those who do not work with minors do so because they do not want to.

Smh. Anyways, there are different reasons. Some have been already pointed out. One thing I think is the biggest issue is fear. Some don't want to get caught up in the photographing minor thing period because of the fears of possibly being accused of doing something that he or she didn't do.

However the photographers I have contacted do various types of work from fashion all the way to nude. But I just want fashion and commercial right now and they won't respond.

I've had that sort of thing a couple times; one said her parents were not relevant in her life, and no other photographer used a release . . . .

Another just said "let's wait until my birthday" since she wanted styles I wouldn't shoot with a 17 year old.  No shoot happened with either, at least so far, and both are 18 by now.

On the other hand, I've had 3-4 shoots with underage models, and I am working on another.  All will have parental involvement, and generally parents present.

That's a sad and pathetic attitude to have, frankly. One dumbass mother has a problem and so you won't shoot anyone under 18? Wow.

You are completely unsuited for fashion. Didn't Barbizon teach you a thing about the real world? If you want to shoot commercial, send me a PM.

Someone for the style (nude, glamour), some other for potential issue with parents.
However i think ask don't hurt, when a photographer don't have shoot of underage on the port don't automatically means that don't shoot underage.

Enjoy the frustrations you have now, because once you've turned 18 you'll trade them in for a lot more frustrations, particularly when the requests for nude shoots start pouring in, as I'm sure they will.

Because if you make a mistake in posing a model over 18 and more than u want shows up in the image.....u just delete it...
Do that with an underage model and the sheriff dept.....shows up and u are in the newspaper...
